If you are happy with it why not? Peter Pig figs are nice and shouldn't be too hard to convert. Cheers, Kev |

Yeah, I think so, paint can do a lot to change a figure, the weapon is your main problem, the Aussies in these pics (all except the first) all carry the Styer S, with a rail for mounting differant sights, and the first pic is the standard Styer with a fixed sight, the rail across the top of the Famas doesn't really look like the fixed sight of the Styer but if you change it a bit it might do, I don't really like the barrel either, its to thick and short, there is a carbine version of the Styre, but when I served it was only issued to 3RAR Para, and crew serving in armoured vehicles. |

For me, technically, those figures have the wrong shaped helmets and their weapons are wrong. Both helmets and weapons are quite prominent. BUT
they're your figures so the question is really " are you happy with them?" and if the answer is yes then go ahead. If you and whoever you play with are happy with them painted as Australians then isn't that what counts? |

Not sure ours would be much better, as the FAMAS is pretty distinctive:
Perhaps I'll have to get around to making a couple of packs with Steyr. link They appear to use the Minimi and FN MAG, with M72, Carl Gustav and Javelin for anti tank. |

Id use the PP us marines and green stuff the weapons. AA |

Thanx for replies. I know that I need to make changes to models, but for now these are closes models to modern Australians I found, because nobody makes modern australians in 15mm. |

2 GeoffQRF It'll be great if you make 15mm Australians! |
Pat Ripley | 22 May 2012 3:03 a.m. PST |
Yes that would be correct Geoff. with a sprinkling of m4a1 for SAS and possibly commando units? |
GeoffQRF | 22 May 2012 3:30 a.m. PST |
Our US already have M4 carbines – could you use those? |

Taking off the front down piece on the rail would be a 2 second conversion and would probably adjust the look. The chunky barrels are a PP style feature some love, some hate. They don't look anything like that big in actual 15mm. PP do plenty of headgear options, so that shouldn't be a problem. The figures have a padded collar and a para type harness, I'd say. |

You'd need to modify only the sight on those PP weapons, but the helmets would also need work. Eureka has a 300 club going for 15mm Aussies- please sign up! |

Nice looking minis GeoffQRF. |

Thank you – I like to think I'm getting better. |

Try cutting off the Famas overbarrel unit front and back, shorten the PP barrel by about 1mm , then drill and fit a new slimmer barrel in the top/front of the PP one. Should do it (roughly) |
GeoffQRF | 23 May 2012 3:30 a.m. PST |
The standard Steyr AUG is slightly longer than the FAMAS (7.9mm compared to 7.5mm)
(pictures not to scale, as Steyr is 40mm longer) Of course this one only has a stubby barrel:

Thats abig thumbs up from me, Geoff, if you make a few figure packs with the Steyr. |

As a side note, you could use Peter Pigs FFL and QRF's modern French as Modern Croatian. They use a bullpup rifle very similar the FAMAS, called the VHS. Would just need head swaps.

The Peter Pig French figures are nice but they are modelled on French troops of the 1991 Gulf War and, as such, they wear steel helmets, old flak jackets, NBC suits and gas mask bag. Photo from Fjodin's 15mm World (15mmworld.blogspot.com):
Photos of Daguet troops from French MinDef:
QRF modern French would be a better starting for conversion if you want to try converting. |

put the PP US fritz helmeted heads on the PP french and I'm sure they'd be quite serviceable; that would also allow subtle reposing |

This is the route I'd go. Sure, some of the kit wouldn't be entirely accurate, but they'd be great as Modern FFL and Australians. Headswaps aren't as hard as people make them out to be. Of course this all depends on who their OPFOR is, if it will be other PP figs then definately yes as the QRF figures will be a bit bigger than the true 15's of PP. |

I know this one's a bit old, and apologies for the threadomancy. However, did anything come from this? Looking at the model I'd suggest removing a small piece of site from the rear of the sight to make it sit on the two front rails, change to a slightly longer front barrel, and a headswap. Otherwise, guess we're still waiting on the 300 club :( |

Nope, they are the same dudes. They sing in the mountains and put shrimp on the barbie. Plus they put up a fence along the Slovenian border too! CNN says so!
