"Facebook"
. Isn't that one of those New Kids on the Block imaginary companies that lost 11% of its value the day after it went on sale?
You're right Tim. I am one of Captain Renault's favorite targets. |

I saw it earlier but haven't been to it yet. |

Facebook – the thing that already knew all my friends although I did never tell it their names? I ran away 5 minutes after registering. |

Facebook – a fading fad. Don't want it, don't need it. What exactly do they make? Nothing. |
| Dedthom | 22 May 2012 8:42 p.m. PST |
Oh my god! it is just a website like any other website. I don't have a Facebook page due to my secret criminal past but I will still look at Facebook sites. You can't catch electric cooties from it. |
| Old Contemptibles | 24 May 2012 10:32 a.m. PST |
Yes you can catch electric cooties form it. It's evil I tell ya! How's that stock working out for you? |
| Bowman | 24 May 2012 4:13 p.m. PST |
You can't catch electric cooties from it. Thanks. I just don't give a about it. Is that plain enough? |
| Dedthom | 24 May 2012 5:56 p.m. PST |
Plain enough Bowman, I shall never mention Facebook again.
Oh , sorry. |

I don't have a facebook account but the missus does. She uses it on this computer. So if I was to post anything it'd appear to be from the missus. What's the advantage of using that facebook page over tmp? I see disadvantages, can't think of any positives. |
| Altius | 25 May 2012 9:27 a.m. PST |
Scared of Facebook? Isn't that kinda like being scared of telephones? |
| Bowman | 28 May 2012 1:18 p.m. PST |
Good analogy. So not wanting to watch a Kardashian reality show means I'm afraid of my television? Fear doesn't enter into it. I prefer to avoid all reality TV when watching television, just as when I'm on the computer, I have no wish to engage in the so called "social networking" sites, such as Facebook, or the aptly named Twitter. It's a preference. Maybe Dedthom or Altius could answer AoNeill's question. |

Despite all the vitriol, the site has a couple of interesting links. Buck Surdu |

I live overseas and find facebook to be a useful way to keep in touch with friends and family. Horses for courses. If you don't like it just don't use it. There's not really any need to tell the world about your objection to it just because it's mentioned on TMP. Unless of course you're on some kind of a crusade against it, in which case anything goes ;-) Cheers, Aaron |

I would imagine it could be a great vehicle for a dedicated theme such as out hobby. I don't like the personal sites but that is just me. Chris P. |

Fear doesn't enter into it. Oh, come on, of course it does. You're among friends, just admit it. The vehement rejection. The defensiveness when your fears are questioned. The inability to verbally pinpoint a clear, logical reason for avoiding it. All dead giveaways. Dude, it's just a tool. It won't steal your soul. |

I use it for wargame related posts, particularly for updates to the Fife & Drum Miniatures range of AWI figures. I don't participate in the social and political chit chat that is common to Facebook. Regardless of one's political point of view, I wish that people ("Friends") would keep politics off of FB as that stuff shows up on the community wall. I block it from my personal wall so that there is only wargame hobby stuff on it. |

Dude, it's just a tool. It won't steal your soul. Dude, It's a privacy issue. I would call it being prudent and careful where you place personal information. I don't want my personal life where everyone can see it, which includes FB and advertisers. I have seen people post way too much personal information about their personal life and their children. There are bad people out there looking to use the information you post to their advantage. Your employer or prospective employer uses your own page to check to see what kind of person you are. This may be a generational thing. We Boomer's came of age in an era where privacy was a big issue. We learned the FBI or other government agencies were spying on Americans. The courts ruled that a right to privacy, which isn't specifically spelled out in the Constitution, is protected. The younger generations are much more open about putting their lives on line for all to see. After all the work of a lot of people, obtaining the right to privacy, it is hard for we Boomer's to understand why you would want to give up that right. It is also a pain in the behind to keep up with. None of my close firends or wargame buddies us social networks. Heck we don't even text! |

"I have seen people post way too much personal information about their personal life and their children." "Your employer or prospective employer uses your own page to check to see what kind of person you are. This may be a generational thing." And if you do put that type of info out there then thats on you! |
