About to start painting a massive amount of Chasseurs. When it comes time to basing, how would I represent the Elite company in my basing? I usually base two cavalry per stand for a squadron of 8 to 10 figures. Thanks.

Which rule system are you basing these miniatures for?

The elite company was usually the first company of the first squadron, so half of the figures of one squadron.

Raglan, Shako II, but I base both sides and am flexible to different rule sets.

Sometimes I sacrifice the most appropriate ratio for the best ascetic appearance. Therefore with 8-10 figures per squadron, I would go with 2-4 elite company.

Nice to see somebody counting his cavalry in squadrons, as the actual tactical unit, rather than by regiments. But 8-10 figures per squadron is a strong showing- what size or scale are we talking?

Ed, Raglan, thanks. Musketier I do 15mm, usually in 8 man squadrons.

I'm with you Larry – 8 figures per squadron, two to a 30mm square base….

I organize French cavalry in 10 figures per squadron, 5 to a (troop) base, in 25mm.

Hi all,

there were two companies per squadron. The 1st company of the 1st squadron was elite (and carried the eagle).

=> if your 1st squadron is represented by 8 figures, you need 4 elite miniatures.

Blancard

edit: I am painting a regiment of hussars (currently finishing the 2nd squadron). 8 minis per squadron – so 4 elite; and I haven't decided if I should base minis 2 by 2 or 4 by 4. Possibly 2 by 2 if I want flexiliby for different rulesets and swap the 1:20 scale for 1:40.

Larry R22 May 2012 6:19 a.m. PST

Blanchard that's basically what I'm doing as well

Kellerman22 May 2012 9:17 a.m. PST

Two figures per company
Two companies per squadron
Four squadrons per regiment
16 figures in total

I add a "colonel" single-based figure, but that's just me.
