If so, which scale do you play in? |
Bobgnar | 21 May 2012 10:16 a.m. PST |
I plan to. I have been collecting figures in 20mm for the battle on Crete. |

I have a strong desire to play 1/2 scale in 6mm; but, I can't finish the real stuff so silly projects like that are just left unstarted. |

I've done it in 10mm a few times. But mostly roll with the standard 15mm. |

I play 6mm a lot. It works great. You switch from inches to cms and all the stats stay the same. We even released a template for the scaled down version. link It goes quick. We can play a 3000 point game in about the same time it takes to do a 15mm 1500 point game. We usually bring a lot of tanks so that speeds things up. A 3k infantry list would be a lot to keep track of. |

Yep. since 2004 in 20mm (1/72) Since I have a large 20mm scale collection, my time and willpower to repaint the same armies in 15mm just wasn't there. So I fiddled around with the excellent basic game back in YR2004 under version 1.0 of the rules. Figured out quickly that the infantry basing was the problem
basing 4-5 20mm miniatures on the standard FOW 15mm infantry team base wasn't going to work. The fix was simple. I just increased the infantry basing by about 25%. The standard infantry team (4-5 miniatures) base now is 2.5" wide and 1.75 deep. The smaller command and small team bases (2-3 miniatures) are 1.75" wide and 1.5" deep. Almost all HMG are on the smaller basing since I count the number of infantry miniatures to determine base size requirements. Artillery, tanks, vehicles, Anti-tank guns etc.. are just based by model size with a small overage of 1/8 to 1/4 inches as needed to protect the models. Generally all other rules of the game are intact into version 3.0 of the rules. Movement, firing ranges, assault, special rules, warriors etc. For missions and scenarios I increase the table width by 25% to account for the larger basing and model sizes. Depth generally remains the same with some special "nearboard" (between onboard and offboard) artillery rules. Example of a recent convention game. No, however I'd love to redo my collection in 6mm but stuff keeps getting in the way. |

Like Wargamerrabbit, I use 1/72nd with modified base size and fig counts. |

Oh Yes, 20mm for both Eastern Front and Normandy. Doubling all measurements and ground scale Normandy I'm not embarrased about, since the close country still makes the ground scale viable, and real company level actions can be replicated. Eastern front, well, lets be honest, it just looks good, its probably a bit silly on a 12' table! |

Nope, 15mm only for me. I've been oddly amused by the guys putting together 6mm versions, and I'd certainly play (though I'd have to borrow an army). But 15mm only for me. |

I have friends that play MicroArmor (1:275) scale, but I never have. I certainly have the forces to do so if I wanted to though. |

Most of the early war games at the club I go to have been 6mm. Cheaper figures, aesthetically more pleasing, takes a much bigger tank to start getting those weird effects you see with crocs and trains where the linear scale of the unit impinges on the exponential scale of the ground. We just size down the base one step – so large based stuff goes onto medium, medium to small and small to something – there's two main options used – either a penny or a halved small base. No changes to distances as for us inches to cm conversions just cramped everything up again – even more than 15mm as you have a 2.5 fold distance change compared to a slightly smaller fold figure size change. So just play with the smaller basing and smaller figures. |

No – I don't play FOW, probably not the answer you were looking for
But if I did play it would most likely be with 6mm |

We played some home grown North Africa scenarios using 6 mm and FOW rules. We left everything the same as for 15 mm. I thought the look of the game was better – no wheel to wheel tank formations, etc. The only down side was the Artillery template. If we did it again I would want to use smaller templates. I believe that Litko makes down sized Artillery templates. |

The Vietnam variant. I had too many Platoon 20's to switch. |

LASW, Same here. Going with 20mm collection for the Vietnam FOW game. Changing the basing to match my FOW WWII basing. Just need to find some 1/72 M48a3 Pattons to round out the American forces. WR |

Not a flaner, but I would be curious to try American airborne in 28mm. |

Tried it in 6mm when it first came out. Worked OK. I probably would have continued in that scale if anyone else in the area had been interested. LY |

1/87 (18.5mm) for me. I have a 45-year head start in that scale and it allows me to play against 15mm and 20mm gamers. Wyatt |
