Has anyone used them in the last few months for painting?

RuLane22 May 2012 2:56 p.m. PST

Gave up around a year ago. Amongst other things I think the Thai floods may have been the death knell for them; shame as I used to be a massive fan of them but have slowly fallen into disrepair over last couple of years.

In their place I have found Fernando Enterprises to be an excellent service (be sure to include a sample or detailed pictures) – outstanding service and value. Also, ADC painting in UK is reliable and I am testing a couple of others; will actually unveil my 'findings' in next couple of weeks with painted samples on TMP if interested.

Good luck!

If you want your figures to be painted correctly I would not send them to Fernando. They really screwed up an order myself and a friend sent in. No faces, wrong uniforms. Don't do it!

The crazy thing is that Fernando insisted I only send one sample picture of the uniform. I have a standard set of pictures I send to any painter and he says he dosen't need all that information. Well apparntly he did. Find your self a American painter if you can and keep the money here.

I have tried finding an American that can paint to the standard of some UK painters, no luck. I find it hard to believe the cost some charge for mediocre work. I paint better than many but, I do not have the time necessary to paint decent size armies.

Many AMericans do fantasy not historical

Most Americans charge about $10 USD to $15 USD an hour for painting. I charge about that, and you'd be looking at ~2 hours per mini for historicals. Especially Napoleonics, with all the [expletives deleted] little details.

Sounds like RAllynow has been unlucky with Fernando – I was really impressed with their service; excellent communication and they email you photos of the work in progress and can make changes if you so desire.

There are a couple of good value British painters if you want to keep your £'s here (I do) – as I mentioned, doing a full write up shortly with photos once I receive in the last batch so I can do a fair comparison.

As a starter for 10:
ADC – great value, UK based, fast: link
MFP – currently testing buut look good:

Hard to tell on the MFP site gallery what are 15mm figures vs larger scales

Reinforcments By Post provide cracking good service.
I've used FE before, and found you have to be VERY Very discriptive. I send painted samples or uniform guides such as you might find here:

Never had any major issues with either.
Cheers

How about Tim Richter, of Colorguard Miniatures in Bath, Maine USA- anyone used him before? He is only a couple hours drive from me and I was thinking of him for a massive pile of 6mm Austrians…He has had some good mentions here on TMP…

I will actually be in the Hartford area this August, any good shops up in that area? I will actually be flying into Hartford and going to Farmington for a few days. I would love to pick your brain a bit since I am new to all this.

We have never had a good shop for Napoleonics, sadly, however, mail order is the best way to get supplied for the hobby anyway! Many good places to eat though! painter.robert.w@gmail.com

I must make a plug for Philgreg in Sri Lanka. I haven't gamed in a few years due to overseas work, but in the past he's done, i'm guessing, about 2000 figures for me. I was always pleased.

GQG, I do love Pepe's Pizza up there in CT. Our cousins also opened a new place in Bristol cannot remember the name now.

Do you have regular Nap games up there? I would love to come and see one. Unfortunately, cannot bring my figs with me.

I would never use Big Battalions in Thailand waited over 6 months for the painted figures heard every excuse and promises but still no figures. I cancelled the order and obtained them from another source. Big Battalions still sent them. I refused to accept as I already obtained the figures painted from another source. Big Battalions refused to refund me and still won't give the money back till this day.

Fredloan26 Aug 2012 3:25 p.m. PST

Yeah, I found out they were not reliable and communication was horrible. I was trying to buy inventory and never could get clear answers so I too went elsewhere.
