I'm a sucker for a doomed cause. If you feel the drubbing of JOHN CARTER was monstrously unjust feel free to join us…

I didn't think JC was terrible, just rather average – especially disappointing considering the Pixar people involved behind the camera.

I wouldn't be surprised if Disney end up doing an animated direct to DVD sequel or even an animated TV series if they revist Barsoom at all.

Fans might have better luck putting their support behind this piratesofvenusmovie.com

I think JC was great, future classic. So I am right behind the campaign for a sequel. Will it happen? Probably not.

I fear it's a hopeless cause – but I loved the film, best new film I've seen in years. So, good luck !

Parmenion18 May 2012 3:31 a.m. PST

I agree with 20thmaine. I'd add my support to the campaign, for what it's worth, but I'm not on Facebook.

I'll bite. I thought it was a very good flick, and Disney royally screwed it over.

Disney really didn't want the first one to succeed, and they…succeeded…at that, so…

Wait for DVD/BluRay. SciFi films often have a second life beyond the theatrical release. I.E. Blade Runner, Brazil, etc.

I agree the marketing for the film was not so great. But every time I see the male lead I just don't think he reads on screen as a hero. Having a more bankable star attached to the project would have helped the box office.

GREAT adaptation of one of my all-time favorite books from my teen years. The original novels weren't terribly good but the movie improved on them immensely. I'm on board for a sequel!

Not the bomb the reviewsers thought.
Made its money in 6 weeks instead of the projecteed 3.
After that, it was all profit. Made a good deal of $$$ overseas.

I would love to see a sequel but with a good advertisement campaign this time.

I wouldn't rule out the possibility (albeit troublesome) of a JC sequel. Remember that DVD sales of the ONE partial season of Firefly produced the movie Serenity.

I would love to see a sequel but with a good advertisement campaign this time.

And a line of supporting toys on which I can waste lots of money, too! Preferrably in 6mm scale (lots of luck).

Preferrably in 6mm scale (lots of luck).

Indeed. Toy scales seem to dodge around 1/300.

I just saw the movie and want to see more.

But there is no way in hell I'm signing up for Facebook.

I shouldn't waste my time but I just can't resist. The studio wanted this to fail? Really? Please put down your crack pipe, you've been abusing it. Made money? Have you taken math? Estimated overall budget $375 USD million, approximate box office $283 USD million world wide – how does that add up to a profit? And, yes, I know about ancillary rights. Ain't happening to an appreciable degree here. You want to be in the shoes of the guy who had to tell the boss, "We need to right off as much as $200 USD million because of this movie."? I think several of you should give that a go – get you a nice little reality check. But, please, out of my concern for your safety, have your heart checked out first.

Love the story, love the movie if you must but…

And, yes, I saw the movie, and didn't – quite – have to hold my nose but the story bounced around perhaps even more than John bounced around Mars. Not one I'd bother to watch twice. Sad, because it really could have been a great movie done right. Not done right, for certain.

As i've said in other threads, Taylor Kitsch was one of the main problems. If an actor with some personality played the part of JC the flick might have had a chance. Imagine a young Burt Lancaster or Kirk Douglas in the roll instead of the wooden Kitsch. The advertising campaign and title for the movie were ridiculous. When I walked into a theater and saw the pre-release poster, just a huge red background with the title "John Carter" on it, I thought "uh oh…this ain't gonna draw customers. Nobody knows who the hell John Carter is. It's been decades since the Ace paperbacks were popular". Dropping "Mars" from the title was a *terrible* idea, but just one of many for this flick.

I have been watching bad sci fi and fantasy films for years. I am 51 yoa. I have been disappointed many times by film executions (in more ways than one) of stories I hold dear. I wanted to like this movie. I liked the books as a kid. If done right this would have been a blockbuster that reintroduced America to cliffhanger stories set on Barsoom. If not done right but at least kinda ok I could get behind it. If made mediorically or even disappointingly I would have at least finished it. Rented it a couple of nights ago. The movie stunk, the acting stunk, My review may be unfair because perhaps the last 2/3 of the movie got better. I have no way of knowing this because I couldn't force myself to watch anymore. Unfortunately after seeing one studio waste 300+ million on this property no other studio is going to step up and do Barsoom right.

I almost gave up on it too!, but I said "what the hell" and watched it all the way through. It didn't get any better. I don't understand how anybody could possibly enjoy Taylor Kitsch's acting. This was a roll that needed someone with charisma. I've seen a lot of movies that were kind of lousy, but were saved because the lead was fun to watch. In fact, most "westerns" are just…y'know…"westerns". But add Eastwood, Wayne, Stewart or any of the other greats, and you have something entertaining watch. Not JC. Kitsch nearly put me to sleep.

Glad I am not thr only one who thought it stank

Excellent background
marvellous creature representations
Beautifull terrain

How could it fail…….crappy script…using too much modern "humour" and actors without any style or projection….Other than the main Thern, Carters Lawyer,ERB and the US Cavalry captain……

great shame, would love to have seen two or three well done Carter films

CooperSteveOnTheLaptop20 Sep 2012 2:18 p.m. PST

I note at least locally to me this is still being sold at just under £13.00 GBP It has never been relegated to the £7.00 GBP, £6.00 GBP, £5.00 GBP, £3.00 GBP bins… interesting given how 'bad' it's supposed to be
