I'm looking for some good books on company or battalion level actions in the Korea War.

I finished The Last Stand of Fox Company: A True Story of U.S. Marines in Combat just last week. Three Medals of Honor awarded for one company action in Korea, plus the book is well-written.

What else would you need to know?

The Last Parallel by Martin Russ.

I'd recommend Pork Chop Hill, despite S.L.A. Marshall's failings as a historian.

The US Army put out a book which covered many of the actions in the war at a low level. It is a PDF online and also a book. I have printed up the PDF but lost the file. I will try later to see if I can locate it. It starts with detail on Task Force Smith. It's exactly what you are looking for.

Thanks,

John

"Scorched Earth Black Snow" and "To The Last Round" by Andy Salmon, both concentrated on the CW contributions. Lot of battalion and company actions in them tied up with a good strategic narrative.

This Kind of War by T.C. Fahrenbach is one of my favorites

I'll second The Last Stand of Fox Company: A True Story of U.S. Marines in Combat. It is well written, detailed, and flows easily from one participant to another. And if Nate Fick (from Generation Kill) thinks it's worthy, that makes it good enough for me!

To add to the "frozen Chosin" experience, also look into Chosin, a fairly good documentary. Some of the players in The Last Stand are in it.
