Just amazing work. A labor of love, but you came out with a stunning terrain piece. |
jbenton | 17 May 2012 2:33 p.m. PST |
Quite nice. Admittedly that's probably something of an understatement. Mind if I ask what bits went into the building at the top? Part of it looks like one of the Pegasus gothic building kits, though it's pretty clearly not stock. |
darclegion | 17 May 2012 2:47 p.m. PST |
Jbenton, You got it, that is what I used Pegasus gothic kits
the only thing I could find that was cheap and I could modify fast. I had my doubts that I could make a Citadel Kingly looking. I plan on one day trying to remake another one. I also used some Games Workshop bits, from the Chapel kits, along with some self made mods. I think it will pass for now. It took me 4 kits (all 4 of them, except the ruins) to make it (the citadel). And ofcourse some of the outer walls are from the Games Workshop Minas Tirith set (3 sets) It gave me a reason to buy them, besides they are cool, and I used them for templates as well, but I raised them about 1.5 inches, and made the battlements to match them. WOW! What are the dimesnsions? Must take up the whole room. |
Wolfprophet | 17 May 2012 5:03 p.m. PST |
I have to say. Since seeing the movie Sucker Punch, I always wondered how the Battle of Minas Tirith could be changed by supplementing the men of Gondor with a fully strength and slightly over-supplied U.S. Marine Corps Rifle Company+elements from their weapons Company
.. They'd need to include some women of course just in case Eowyn doesn't show up in time before they whittle things down to the Witch King. Ahahaha. |
darclegion | 17 May 2012 6:14 p.m. PST |
Galvinm, The circumference of the half circle (outer wall) is about 11 feet. The mountain back is 12 feet. The radius is about 6 feet deep. The tallest point of the mountain is 32 inches, going to the citadel floor at 28" and down to the highest wall at 24 inches. I primarily made it this way for storage, but it turned out to be perfect size for gaming. Plus, I only went 5 levels, instead of 7 levels, so that I could reach all levels. The upper walls are just for archers
which I have too many. I made catapult stations, like in the movie, (not the book)
because it is in the game. There are a total of 10 gates, but they are hard to see in that pic. The only thing bad about foam, is you obviously have to be more careful with it, but that is ok. Tom ps, my table is a odd shaped table, but over all it has two sides that are 12 feet, and one side that is 16 feet, and then one side with multiple sides, sorta shaped like a over sized "E" My table is designed for large castles, I have a few large ones. City of Troy, Tyre, 2 types of Helms Deep, large warhammer and few various other castles. |

Now, we need to see it populated with figures! With terrain of that size, only a few thousand will do

FirstVa
.. The figures are coming soon
.I have around 3000 or more LOTR Harlequin figures to do the battle with, that I have painted over the last 4 years roughly. It wont be for a few weeks, I am painting
a few hundred figures right now, but when I am done, the first game will be this. It is on the table waiting. And I plan on posting some pics..for sure. Have to show that off. Tom |

With your model making abilities I have no idea why you would pay(one who has less talent than you) the amount of money you shelled out. But
I'm not certain how valuable your time is
Nice job

darclegion, there's a free mini-con in New Braunfels in August: stminicon.org If you want to bring your Minas Tirith for a game, let me know. Even if you don't bring it, you're welcome to come play. So is everyone else! |

Man, that is cool! You should really take the show on the road and set this up at a couple of the big cons and share it with the world. Allen |
firstvarty1979 | 10 Aug 2012 7:57 a.m. PST |
I think it is ALMOST done. You really need to put buildings and a few ruined buildings in the lower level. Due to the amount of them you'll need, I'd stick with something inexpensive and light to make the walls, like foamboard, and add texturing by scoring them and adding rough texture paint. Roofs can be made from cardboard. Using Pegasus or Games Workshop (or other) buildings would be nice, but cost-prohibitive. |
darclegion | 10 Aug 2012 11:22 a.m. PST |
actually, now that you said that. I had not revealed it, but I have a rather large Osgilith ruins set (24 buildings) that I had bought off Ebay years ago, that was made by the guys at The Art of War Terrain. link photos seem to be gone now. But I have alot of them on my facebook page. Anyways, I plan on using them in my city. Keep the ideal of a city that has been in seige for awhile, and the buildings are destroyed..etc. I had that already figured out, I had to have that ofcourse. I was going to have the Art of War terrain guys build it for me, but I built it myself. I plan on one day taking it out to a con, not sure when though, and thank you for all the great comments! I appreciate them. tom |
