I just posted photos of my first modular set for DBA, but realized these may have application to other rule systems which allow the placement of structures on the table top.

The elements were build for the SYW (DBA-HX) but are generic for other eras.

Those look very nice indeed. The only thing that seems odd to me is the random direction of the thatch on the roofs. I always think that model thatch looks better when it all goes from the ridge towards the eaves as it would for real. It may be impossible to do that with the materials used, though.

Doug,

The thatching was created from electrostatic grass, which after several attempts to brush the fiber in one direction, I just gave up. I applied the grass to the cardstock roof, which may not have helped.

A better approach, was possibly glue the grass to sheets of paper, brush in one direction, later, cutting the sheets into 3mm wide strips and overlay them on the roof. This option however, is time consuming.

Still, built from scrap materials and excess Woodland Scenics, it creates a nice ambiance.

Cheers,
Robert

Oh yeah – they look great. I figured it was probably something that was just not gonna happen with the flock/static grass. The best thatch roofs I've seen, honestly, were not made with flock or static grass at all, but sculpted from putty.

Have you considered Teddy Bear Fur for thatch?

Very nice constructions but not really good for Ancient/Medieval DBA. The BUA there is a walled structure. "A BUA (Built-Up Area) represents a large palisaded or walled village, a hill fort or a walled town or castle." Phil gave Constantinople as an example.

Now if the game have a village or town concept for a type of terrain these would be great.

Also good for DBN or gunpowder era games where towns were in the battle field area.
