This is a question to all of you that use Black Powder for napoleonics on this forum. In the rules only one gun model is used to represent a artillery unit. Coming from a 1:20 ration background this of cause seems really small. In General de Brigade one gun model only represents two actual guns, this seems to be a norm amongst 1:20 rules. Do you beef up your artillery units with more gun models, but treat it as a single piece rules wise? Do you use multiple artillery units and combine this in to batteries, I.e the single gun model represents a company of guns or maybe half a company? Basically how do I represent my divisional eight gun 6pdr battery in a game of Black Powder? Thanks in advance for any help! |

I used to go with the rules, but it became obvious that too much artillery can really spoil the game, so I have started using three guns as a battery, so that a battery has a frontage at least a little closer to that of a battalion in line. I know others have said similar. Pat |

Strictly speaking a Napoleonic artillery battery should have a similar frontage to an infantry battalion. Twas discussed before: TMP link |

BP quite deliberately reduces the effectiveness of artillery as outlined in the book. I like to see a battery represented by two guns, but otherwise treat the two guns as a single gun battery as per the rules, although we have increased both the ranges and stamina. I just happen to think 2 guns look better

So I should use my arty batteries as is, i.e 3-4 model guns, but treat them as a single arty unit as per the rules. I originally thought that that would make them to weak, but now found the -1 to morale save at long range and -2 at effective range modifiers. That will give them some bite. |

I went to two models. Then went back to one. I think because I was restructuring my artillery from minifigs and essex to AB's and was short of the new guns. Also years of Shako followed by NapBats made me used to one gun batteries. |

My group has gone with 2 models for your standard artillery battery and 3 for the russian batteries that were larger. We are also useing a single gun model for regimental guns.We have also increased the stamina as well. |

I like the system of 1 gun per battery but I use crews of 6 or 8 to represent the battery size and also make the deployed battery base proportionate to its real frontage. Rod |
