Hi, As a couple of projects that have been occupying me are coming to a close, my mind has been drifting back to Napoleonics. A while back, I picked up a few boxes of 1/72 plastics, and painted up some test bases. I've been basing figures on 6cm x 6cm square bases, partly because I thought it looked good, partly because I wanted to use a single base size that would work for any type of unit. What I have so far is 2 bases of French in the 1812+ uniform ( link )and one base of hussars( link ). Here's the first problem – I'm starting to look around for an OOB I can use as a building goal. With Waterloo's anniversary coming up, my first thought was that, but as far as I can tell, there weren't French Hussars there. The Hussars I have are painted as the 10th (I liked the uniform), and I'd like to be able to use them. However, they didn't operate after 1814. Any suggestions on an appealing battle or OOB where I could use these Hussars and my later uniform French without public humiliation? Second, any rule suggestions that would be compatible with my preferred basing? I'm leaning towards either 2-4 bases per "unit", with one unit approximately one battalion strong. Black Powder is one option I'm considering, but I'd welcome suggestions. Thanks for any advice (other than switch to another scale ;) FMB |

Personally,I wouldnt base them for Black Powder,I'd base them for another rule system that you like, and you could always use them for BP,since the only requirement for it is both sides' units have similar footprints. |

The 10th Hussars were still a viable unit during the France 1814 campaign and were brigaded with the Garde du Honneur accrediting themselves well. Depending upon your unit strength ratio you will be using, you certainly could have some very small infantry and indeed cavalry units to play with. Most infantry battalions were under 150 strong in many cases. Just a thought |

French Hussars were at Waterloo. You have made a good choice with Black Powder, BTW! Good Waterloo OB's can be found here: centjours.mont-saint-jean.com |

Marbot's 7th Hussars were the only ones there, and they didn't actually fight in the main part of the battle. |

Very nice. There is some excellent 1/72 stuff around now. I'm surprised that it is not more popular with wargamers. I think you have the right idea with basing. Go with what looks good from the off and make your rules fit your bases! Can't help with the 10th, but Black Powder is a good place to start with rules. |

Funny you should mention Black Powder. I had a chance to look over the rules yesterday, and they look to suit my needs well. I've also had a look at the spring 1813 campaign, and they look to suit my needs as well. Thanks for all the advice so far. |
