There's lots choose from – I do like West kennet long barrow, and Bryn Celli Ddu. And Waylands Forge. And Mên-an-Tol. But I think my absolute favourite is Belas Knap. |

One I'm not in? Seriously, though
it isn't really a topic I've engaged with in that way
What criteria might we set? |

Any you like really – there are huge mounds, there are small mounds in out of the way places, there are mounds that have lost their mound (like Mên-an-Tol). I really like wayland's smithy's position on the ridgeway, but Belas Knap is well preserved, is in what is now a semi-hidden position, it's pretty big and it has a false main entrance. I like all these things. |

Are we allowed to nominate burial mounds that have eroded away leaving only the stones (i.e. Cromlechs)? In which case, I'd like to nominate one just up the road from me – Pentre Ifan:

CAHOKIA MOUNDS in Southern Illinois just off I-55 North of St. Louis, You can see it from the highway. 20,000 Indians lived there at one time making it the largest citiy at that time North of Mexico and about the same size as many European cities.Cahokia was larger than London was in AD 1250. Worked there one Summer after high school on a dig. It is the largest Archaeological sites in the Western Hemisphere. Monks mound is bigger then the great Pyramid at Giza . cahokiamounds.org link link link

Technically, early American mounds like Cahokia and Etowah were not actually "burial" mounds. It's thought they functioned sort of like a motte and bailey. As James says, Cahokia was huge, bigger foortprint thant he Great Pyramid, I believe. |

Parkin Archeological State Park, my Mom wrote the book on it so I'm quite biased. My dad worked at CAHOKIA as well so it's also a nifty place. |

La hogue Bie on jersey is pretty dramatic too – especially with the church built on top of it ! Could be some symbolism there

Belas Knapp Large barrow (even though you mostly can't get into the interior), and good setting too.
Or failing that of those that haven't been suggested: Wayland Smithy
Hetty Pegler's Tump
