Interesting – I do like the white colour but not sure about the 'pick and pluck' – I find some do not come cleanly out and leave odd bits around. If you want a deeper one KR krmulticase.com/default.aspx card cases have thick foam as an option. Thanks for the review. |

Nice review indeed. I've been looking at those for bulk storage for my Flames of War and Uncharted Seas minis. This gets me thinking

Hmm, was looking into getting some cases for my grow 15mm forces. Will have to compare the cost vs other cases I had in mind. |

Hmmmmmm
interesting. I use ULINE commercial storage boxes which look to be at least as good if not better than these with the same style foam. I bought mine in bulk. Total cost for my boxes with pluck foam and foam bottom and top is about 4-5 bucks a box IIRC. I think I'll stick with mine. Plus you can get ULINE boxes up to a couple of inches deep. Thanks, John |

@ John.. want to point to that on the Uline site? |

I had a look too and can't seem to replicate that on the ULINE site (it might be possible, but I cant see it). |

Didn't some one else have a simular product for like 2/3rds the price? |

I've checked into ULINE boxes myself. I found a good source locally for relatively cheap custom cut pluckfoam. Just never found a box I really liked. |

5 is what I am seeing the egg crate foam shipping boxes selling at. Not a terrible option.. but not the same, either. |

Ok, here's the listing and the link to ULINE. I use the stationary boxes. 200lb test. S-11231 18 x 12 x 2" link Foam Factory: link I use 1" thick 1/2" squares. Bottom and top foam: link I use 1/4" thick charcoal. General foam link: link I used to buy the Warstore storage boxes. However, these are actually sturdier and way cheaper. I'm a customer for life. The boxes come in batches of 25. So, you have to spend a little money upfront. However, you'll be set for quite a while! Thanks, John |

I'd second the choice of the "Foam factory" a clubmate and I just purchased a batch and it's good stuff. As for the boxes themselves, I've got little use for card boxes since my figures travel quite often. I just keep my eye out for appropriate sized hard cases at resale shops, then bring them home and fill with foam. Metal microscope slide cases are great and I recently found a case designed for microphones that works great with new foam. Still, if you're willing to spend 15 bucks for a cardboard case that holds 50 miniatures, why not instead spend 20 bucks and a bit of DIY for a plastic hard shell case that comes with foam, and can hold 100-180 miniatures?
I've recently updated my how-to for the Plano 1401 here: linkI've made 6 of these cases for various types of minis ranging from Space Marines, to Void, To rebased N-scale mechs and have yet to be dissapointed with the plano 1401 cases. |
