The other morning,I wanted something new to read in the Military Sci Fi category(mercifully I am all done with Ice and Fire),so I fired up the Kindle.Being new to this genre,I'm very much feeling my way around. What I settled on was "Chronos",by Tom Ciolli. Let me start by saying that I am only halfway through this book, but have very much been impressed with it.It is not high literature, but I suspect that anybody going for this type of thing already knows that. What it does do is tell the story from the groundpounder's point of view. Its a usual war story, wartorn worlds light years away, between a couple of corporate factions. What it really seems to excel at is very entertaining operational and technical details. Its almost as if the author had read a copy of Tomorrow's Wars and wrote some sci fi around it.So,if youre new to this type of gaming(like me),and would like some great ideas for scenarios,I recommend this book. Its only $4 USD on the Amazon Kindle,so no hardship there. |
