Hi, Playing around with ideas for a medieval project. Front runners are the Andalusian / Moorish armies, and the Normans in Sicily. I'm waffling on scale. What I'm really looking for are gorgeous figures. Any opinions on the best available range for each of these in both 15mm and 28mm? Thanks, FMB |

For 15mm look at Khurasan, which has a lot of figures to do a pretty complete Siculo-Norman army, including Muslim Sicilians, Communal Italians, etc. Also QRF has some Siculo-Norman archers in their range, distinctly loosing arrows under their shields. Damon. |

My 28mm are a mixture of gripping beast, old Glory, crusdaer, and some wargames factory germans converted (greenstuff turbans, and then file the feet a little to look more like soft boots) |

And with Norman Sicily you can also bring in the Byzantines and the Crusades. I did my armies many years ago using MiniFigs and Table Top Miniatures. Jim P.S. If you are interested, I might be persuaded (very easily) to part with my unpainted figures as my eyes aren't really up to painting 15mm figures any longer. jmcp1650 at comcast dot net |

In addition to the ranges already mentioned, it is also worth looking at Mirliton, Donnington New Era and Essex in 15mm. For the larger scale it is worth checking Conquest(for Normans), Perry, Musketeer (for Andalusian/Moorish)and Artizan (Andalusian/Moorish. |

Miniature Design Studio started a berber line in 28mm a few years back which, despite repeated requests, they never continued. The Berber cavalry especially are excellent: link They do very cheap "warband" packages. For plastics take a look at the 28mm El Cid muslim figures from HAT. Different in style but certainly useable. |

Normans in Sicily – look no further than the Perry's First Crusaders. If the twins cover it I can't see a reason why anyone would go anywhere else in 28mm ;-) |

I've been considering getting into SAGA with a Norman warband, but I'm also quite interested in the Norman kingdom in Italy. I haven't done much research at all, but would there be many differences in arms and equipment between the Normans in William's army of 1066 and those in southern Italy a century later? |
