My favorite weapon has to be the sling. Probably one of the most ancient of weapons, but it has alot of things going for it like cheap to make, and pretty deadly when used by someone with skill.

I also like the Roman gladius.

What do you like?

skippy000110 May 2012 10:09 p.m. PST

Gladius
Martiobarbuli
Warhammer
Composite short bow
Kukri

Pretty much what I always take in a fantasy rpg.

Should have same question for armor.
And for a Star Gate loadout.

Sling, as I am a slinger!

However were I snatched by aliens and dumped into the classical world, I would go for a gladius-and-scutum combo as having the best simplicity v effectiveness ratio.

As a personal weapon, then I'll take a pike please, as long as I have a few thousand of my pals along similarly armed.

Atl-atl.

I did a Mexican night once when I was a cub leader and taught the cubs how to make them. A couple of the parents were not impressed. The kids loved it.

I was always fond of tossing plague victims over city walls. Is that technically a weapon?

I would also go with the katana.

Florida Tory11 May 2012 8:09 p.m. PST

Pilum and gladius, for their ubiquity.

For sheer ingeniousness of its creation unequalled in the classical world, I'd go for the Claw of Archimedes.

Not exactly a weapon – but part of a weapons system – I always like the folks on the steppes who had those mobile wagon lagers they traveled with.

Poison would be the weapon I would most fear.

Sling would be one I would like to learn.

But favorite overall would be the Gladius.

I've always had a fondness for Chinese dagger-axes, although I can't say why. Firelances are cool too, as are naphtha pots, hurled wasps nests, paper elephants, flaming pigs, and roman anti-elephant wagons.
