"War of 1812 - Fresh Water Navies" Topic

I am sculpting a fleet for the War of 1812 on the Northern Lakes. I have the dimensions of most of the major combat vessels, but some of them have eluded me. Many of the ships, especially those that were converted from merchant vessels, have little documentation. Here is a list of the ones for which I have found no dimensions:
Lake Ontario Brtitish – Brigs of War/Goshawk, Colibri Schooners/Seneca, Hamilton , Confiance
Lake Ontario U.S. – Schooners/Conquest, Julia, Growler , Ontario, Fair American, Pert, Raven Sloop/Asp
Lake Erie British – Sloop/Erie Brig/Detroit
Lake Erie U.S. – Brigs/Caledonia, Adams Schooner/Ariel Sloop/Trippe
Lake Champlain – Sloops/Preble, Montgomery, Wasp, Francis
I have displacements for almost all, so I can make an educated guess, but if any of you have stumbled across some inside info (Historical, Archeological) on dimensions or appearance of any of these or the other ships on the lakes I would appreciate the help.

War Artisan has some very nice looking paper models of various vessels used during 1812.

Old Glory sells some resin ones.

Both are worth checking into.

Almost forgot, Valiant Miniatures just released some very nice looking smaller vessels too, in 1/2000th scale, e.g. a brig, sloop, and one other vessel – can't recall what the latter one was.

I talked to the War Artisan people at Navcon last year. I sculpted the new ships for Valiant, Sloop, Small Brig and Small Schooner. I've corresponded with Mr. Lardas who wrote the Osprey Book.
I've also read most of the standard literature, The Chapelle, and Malcomson books and studied the archaeological research.
I still don't have any hard evidence for the ships listed above. I was just hoping that someone may have read something that told the dimensions of one of the ships, or more likely a letter or journal that describes one of the ships. Details like figurehead, quarterdeck, rail, stern, cabin, etc.

The basic dimensions and general description of the HMS Detroit, as it appeared at the Battle of Lake Erie and not as the renamed US Army Brig Adams, appears in "A Signal Victory – The Lake Erie Campaign 1812-13" by David Curtis Skaggs and Gerard T. Altoff. Unfortunately there are no details along the lines you've mentioned. They say the HMS Detroit was designed along the line of the Royal George class that appeared on Lake Ontario and was "approximately 110 feet long, with a beam of 28.5 feet." They also mention it took "more than 60 frames installed with about twenty-two inch centers."

Have you contacted the guy who sculpts the Thoroughbred 15 mm schooner, gunboats, and brigs for their War of 1812 figures and ship kits? Though for all I know, you may be that guy!

Agesilaus Is not the maker/modeler of the 15mm Sea Eagles product line. The majority where mastered by Jim Moulton then prototyped and produced by me. All new hulls starting with EN13 and new items such as our Martello Tower and our new Polacre rigged ship were done by me with expert assistance by Randy Hardin.
Jim's original Prevailing Winds 15mm rules have since been totally revamped, improved and more potential actions added such as ship vs land engagements. The new rules – now up on our website and called Sea Eagles – went thru extensive improvements and play-testing by Edgar Papon and Jamie Peterson of the Jacksonville Gamers and Randy Hardin of HMGS Midwest in Illinois.

The Thoroughbred site on your link doesn't actually seem to show a way to order the new rules that replaced Prevailing Winds. Are they still in progress?
