I saw this in the local Target this evening, and think it would make a great looking, 15mm Dropship:

picture

Probably could use a re-paint, but it comes in a large box, and has a nice, large ramp at the rear, for deploying your armored vehicles from. The cockpit fits a figure in it, but it opens up, so that can be removed, if you want it to represent a multi-person cockpit – probably easy access for converting the interior, by the looks of it.

I think it would be great to see 2 – 4 people seated in the cockpit, operating the craft for a hot landing, on a hostile planet.

Now, we just need to get someone to produce some seated, 15mm Sci-Fi pilots and crew figures, in seated poses.

Given its size, it would also work nicely as a slightly smaller, 25mm/28mm Dropship too.

picture

It also comes with an Iron Man figure, if you want one of those.

Has a missile launch bay in the top of the fuselage, that can be raised to show them.

Runs $32 USD, which isn't bad, especially compared to metal minis, and taking into consideration its size.

I like the looks of this one a little better, without the fans in the wings:

Ah, now I see that moving the tail helps to move some flaps, so the wing fans get covered.

Here are a lot more pics of the "Dropship", showing the landing gear, rear ramp, etc., along with more info on the toy:

I like it

It is a massive thing… it would probably be better as a 28mm drop ship… but I guess in 15mm, it could probably drop off a whole army.

Perfect for Infinity…

My sister recently returned from a trip to NY and picked up the rc version of this that is only 11 inches long. It's not age appropriate for a two year old, so it's now in Dad's "care". I can't for the life of me find any links to share.

It's a good size for 15mm, poor for 20 or 25/28. It lacks the detail of the above, no movable rear door or hatches etc. It's also a bit light on detailing in general, especially the underside, but it has excellent potential. If you see it in the bargain bin (and it will get there eventually) I'd advise the 15mm crowd to source that one as it's more in scale and it's mod and conversion ready without having to glue anyhting shut etc.

Based upon the eBay listings, it appears the gray and yellow one is about 12" long, which jives with the overall box size I saw.

There's one listed at the Canadian Walmarts only, that appears to be a different toy, with sound, lights, and a voice, activated by a remote control. It is in a very nice looking, blue-gray, metallic finish.

It is called an Infrared Remote Control Avengers Quinjet.

That one appears to be a bit smaller, but still very nice looking. Probably in around the 10" long range, or so, and also selling for 30.00 Canadian Dollars.

I hope they will be releasing it here in the USA, but it's not listed on USA or Canadian eBay sites yet, but is apparently in stock at a lot of the Canadian Walmart stores.

I saw one in Target yesterday.

Mako, thats the one I've got. Its about 11 inches long. It was picked up at a toys r us in NY.

I agree that we need more seated pilot and driver sculpts.

You would definitely need some underwing hardware, and a nice chin turret. I'm thinking a minigun, or maybe two chin turrets with them to really sweep the area clean before landing.

That would make a great shuttle for Traveller, or maybe a stand in for a Imperial 50 landing boat.

I like the looks of the R/C one too.

It's interesting that it doesn't seem to be listed in any of the stores, at least that I can find, in the USA, or on eBay.

Hopefully, it will be made available soon, in greater quantity as well, since I'd like to compare the two.

is this the one?

Thornhammer12 May 2012 5:58 p.m. PST

The big one is on sale at Toys R Us for $25 USD right now.

McWong7313 May 2012 8:57 p.m. PST

No, that's an older one. This one is definitely from the new movie, and follows the design of that film version. Looking at it over the weekend it lacks clearly defined or visible wing fans, but is in excellent scale for 15mm.

Though to be honest there are plenty of old GI Joe toys (Nightraven?) that would work as well, for one fifth the price.

palaeoemrus13 May 2012 10:58 p.m. PST

This is the new one. I Haven't seen it is stores in Austin yet and Amazon doesn't have it listed. I got the picture from Walmart Canada.

There is a smaller toy called Marvel Avengers Iron Man's Firestrike Attack Jet. It is still very large by 15mm standards but probably easier to pass off as a massive drop ship since the cockpit can be made to look like hull. It's $20 USD and I bought one at Target.

Apparently Captain America has one out there too.

Of course I've only seen his Crawler Tank. I bought it to use as a huge 15mm vehicle.

Other possibly useful toys to be repainted and modified into largish 15mm drop ships:

The GI Joe Alpha and Bravo series of toy vehicles had several jets and copters and such that might be made to work as a dropship. Most have gone up in price because they are last years toys and tied to a movie the year before that.

Mantis Attack Craft ($24.95 at Amazon)

picture

Skysweeper Jet ($25 at amazon)

picture

Black Dragon VTOL ($22.39 at Amazon)

picture

Crimson Hydra ($22.39 at Amazon)

picture

Polar Sharc Submarine ($11.75 at Amazon)

picture

Sand Serpent/Night Raven ($24.99 at Amazon (Nightraven))

picture

All of these except for the Nightraven/Sand Serpent are about the same size as the Iron Man FIrestrike Attack Jet.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST:

There will be an Avengers Movie Helicarrier toy coming out sometime soon.
