Did Ju87s ever tow DFS 230 gliders? Thought they were towed by something much bigger, like a Ju52 or He111?

Ooh, no, I stand corrected:

"Two Luftwaffe's transport glider DFS 230s towed by Ju 87Rs for a mission somewhere in Italy, Summer 1943"

Man, Ju-87s flew at nose-picking speed to begin with – Start towing something and it must have felt like they were standing still!

That's what I was thinking. Top speed of 240mph (VNE 373) but a cruise of only about 120mph, 'only' 1100hp on a single engine with 2 crew and a carrying capacity of about 5000lb. DFS230 gross weight was about 4500lb.

Must have handled like a pig, and I'd hate to have been towed over water on only one engine… Data reckons the DFS had a rate of sink of 240ft/min, so that's 35 minutes glide time from 8,500ft with a top speed of 100mph. 50-55 miles?

Hmm, suppose the Channel is only 21 miles at its narrowest point.
