Any tips on Vallejo colours for East German Cold War troops. From pictures it looks a lot like German WWII Feldgrau. Any advice?

Well, WW2 Feldgrau was more of a dark green color, the NVA uniforms were just light gray. Of course, combat uniforms were differnet and had Strichtarn (stripe camouflage) dark brown-on-grey.

A dark green olive I would have called it- I think the helmets may have been dark grey. That's what I remember from about 83.

The combat uniforms were greyish olive, not dark. The strichtarm medium brown. Belts for the webbing was medium grey with no brownish cast. But pouches were the same colors as the uniform. When East Germany "went out of business", vast amounts of their surplus hit US Army-Navy stores, so I got a good look at it. Many stores still have some.

Strichtarn looks mid brown from a distance, webbing straps pale grey nylon, helmet dark grey. DDR is one of my re-enactment impressions…

So would Vallejo 880: Khaki Grey be suitable?

Buckeye AKA Darryl16 Jan 2020 12:02 p.m. PST

Well, the base color has been described as a grey green, but once you add the brown stripes, the overall impression is closer to the khaki grey you mention. In 15mm one might not paint the striping, so going with the khaki grey looks pretty good. I am going to go with a green gray with the khaki grey dry brushed on I think.
