I am looking into purchasing one or more of the computer strategies rules (Desert Whirlwind being one of them) and I am wondering what scales the games work well with. I will be using 6mm models for my modern gaming but I am interested to know if I could use larger scales like 20mm or 28mm with the rules too.

Thanks
Rob

I don't think it matters much. I have some based for Flames of War and they are fine. The game works off actual number of troops. Whether one figure = 1 man or 20 is up to you. No need to rebase.

In my experience infantry stands usually have 1 or 2 figures per stand, AFV have maybe 1 model and artillery or rockets have 1 model per stand. But you can vary it.

Is that what you were wanting to know?

Partly yes, I was wondering whether the game works well with skirmish size actions as well as larger company/battalion actions etc. I should have worded it differently.

Hi

Like Ikki said, but while the system will handle small and large group actions the table top size is also a factor.

IMHO you are better with just a few 6mm figures as the relatively "empty" modern battlefield where dispersed units fight at longer range means the figures can look too crowded together with larger units on a tabletop. Unless you have a big tabletop.

Have I hit the mark?

Yeah that makes sense, I think I'll end up sticking with 6mm or 10mm figures now anyways, cheers for the help guys!
