I was just wondering if the Flag Dude was still in business? I've sent Rick several email-orders without response. Checked my spam/junk mail and no joy. I really like his cloth flags for my 54mm AWI collection by All the King's Men. If he is not in business, can anyone recommend another company that makes "cloth" flags? I don't want paper after my GMB fiasco for my ECW collection. The flags completely bled and faded after putting them onto my set. They looked good for a while but then faded/bled to white.
Any pearls would be appreciated.

He was at Cold Wars. But he told me he's recently been really busy with other obligations.

I got an e mail from Rick on the 16th of this month, he mentioned that he had just come from the hospital, I hope everythngs ok. This may be why he's not responding. (Real life getting in the way, more important things than toy soldiers to consider, we've all been there).

Understood, been there done that myself this year. Thanks for the update. I won't bother him until he responds to my original mail then. I need to paint more 54s!

He was in the vendor's hall at Cold Wars in March.

He think attended Salute in the UK this year. I recall seeing a picture of him in one of the many hundreds of photos posted here on TMP recently.

I wouldn't know him from Adam. Thanks for the updates however. I just want to purchase a load of cloth flags for a game I'm putting on in July for Skirmish 2012, Plano, Texas.

Thanks!

I was wondering if any one has heard from him. I placed a large order over a month ago. He cashed the check told me he got the money and I have heard nothing for awhile now. Has anyone got any orders recently? I just Wonder if all is well?

linbob8615 May 2012 10:21 a.m. PST

I placed an order about 6 weeks ago and received my flags shortly after that. The only problem was that he sent flags I didn't order. I emailed him and he has yet to reply, its been about a month. Since nobody has heard from him and he's always been good to deal with (for me, anyway), I'm assuming there's something else going on in his life.

That's about the same time I placed my order. They weren't 15mm ACW flags were they? Just wondering. I wonder what I should do, my friends and I combined our orders. I really talked rick up and bragged a lot about the service he had provided for me in the past. Now they are asking me what's going on and I am running out of answers? I will give him two weeks at that point it will have been over two months and I am going to have to do something.

Steve

Please get in touch. I'll replace them. either with ecw or from another range if you have that one covered.
I used a different supplier of pigments for a short while. I've gone back to the original source of inks. I have some prints above my desk dating from 2001 which look fine.

155th NYVI: I didn't order 15mm ACW flags, mine were 28mm Teutonics (he sent Templar flags instead). Looking through past posts, he does seem to disappear at times – can't be good for business. Seems a bulk email to waiting customers would be appropriate. Anybody else heard from this guy?

Dashetal18 May 2012 9:11 a.m. PST

Sent him an email just before Salute to see if he could do some specialty flags. Got a "I will get back to you reply" and nothing further. I suspect he sailed off into the Bermuda Triangle. Maybe Pyrat Zombie got him?

Ok cool just wondering, I ordered some 60 flags, most are unit specific. He really does amazing work. And I don't mind waiting just give me an update or something. If i hear anything I will lot you know.

Hey everyone….I spoke with Rick today by phone, he has had three stays in the hospital in the past month with a recurring health issue, which has put him out of action for flag-making and out of contact with customers.
He is recovering at home and was busy making flags today trying to get caught up. He said to express his regrets to all customers who have been patiently waiting and wondering, and promises you will receive your orders soon.

Rick also stated he still plans to attend upcoming ORIGINS and HISTORICON.

FYI: the tornado rumor was months ago, Rick's home and his parent's home received minor damage, but that has all been repaired, and no injuries.

Rick asked me to post this reply to ease your worries, Rick has had a tough year, but FLAG DUDE is still in business.

Wow, I had not heard that about Rick. He filled a big order of 54mm flags for me in time for April. Thanks for the update and sure hope he is better soon.

YOU BEAUTY !!!! I thank you from the bottom of my prussian flags yet to be ordered :)

Larry Gettysburg Soldiers07 Jun 2012 11:54 a.m. PST

Received my order today, so it looks like Rick is getting caught up!

155th NYVI07 Jun 2012 4:32 p.m. PST

Cool Larry, still waiting on mine, but more important any news on how he is feeling? Just wondering thanks

shipshape28 Jun 2012 3:31 a.m. PST

He cashed my check mid March, $168. USD I sent 6-7 emails, no replys. Phone calls have not been returned or promises of "sending out this weekend" not kept. It appears that Rick will take your money & not deliver the goods, that's called a SCAM so send him your money at your own risk. If you have an outstanding order, call him, maybe you'll have better luck than me. Rick's number is: 312-371-5704. Please don't buy from him if you see him at a Con, you'll just be encouaging him to continue his mail order scam.

historygamer28 Jun 2012 9:35 a.m. PST

Maybe the thing to do is only buy what he has right there, and not put any money down on any back orders.

linbob8628 Jun 2012 5:25 p.m. PST

shipshape: I'm having a similar problem. He filled my order with incorrect flags (Templars instead of Teutonics). Three emails and 3 months later I have yet to hear back from him. I've heard that he has been ill, and I think people have been patient and sympathetic. The problem is that he was seen at Origins and is listed in the vendor area for upcoming Historicon. How sick can he be??? If he is too lazy to return emails, maybe he should find some responsible adult and let her do it for him. This is a case of internet fraud and I intend to pursue it. I strongly urge people to avoid sending him money. I can't believe he shows his face at conventions.

linbob8628 Jun 2012 5:26 p.m. PST

historygamer: why buy anything he sells (even in person)? He 's looking like a scam artist to me.

historygamer28 Jun 2012 7:00 p.m. PST

I agree about taking money and not filling orders. If he is at one of these conventions take your stuff with you (if you go) and ask for a refund. Like many people in many hobbies, I think stuff is great if you can buy it there on site, but buyer beware of back orders. I had a painter take figures for about two years, not paint or return them. I finally had to call his mother (don't ask how I got her) and demand my stuff. It showed up a week later. Ahh, the power of mothers. Perhaps call Flag Dude's mom and out him. :-)

Good luck, but I would press my case in person, or have a friend do it if you aren't attending.
