Third and most recent adaptation of the I am legend novel bears the same name. This is a movie that is half excellent and half complete crap. Atmosphere and the character portrayal of Neville is imo quite excellent during the first 50 minutes. After that the story turns really stupid, CGI mutants look really bad and the ending makes least sense of all endings so far.

I found this version disappointing as well.

My favorite of the three versions remains that with Charleton Heston, despite its many faults.

If you like "last man on earth" movies, have a look at "The Quiet Earth":

I just picked up Omega Man from Big Lots for $3.00 USD

I think Walmart may also have it in their $5 USD bin.

I love The Quiet Earth- what an ending!

Agreed on Legend; great atmosphere and character, then it all goes to hell.

The Last Man on Earth has become Public Domain. So you can find copies of it on the net for free. Also it pops up at dollar stores and the like on DVD.

Of all the film versions, I prefer The Last Man on Earth. Vincent Price as an everyman…

really? the zombies were all to real for my liking. I had to shut the movie off and finish watching it later.

I enjoyed "I am Legend". I just watched "I, Robot", the other night and like that a lot too, despite the fact that it was nothing like the series of stories by Asimov.

Yeah, first half great, second half terrible.

I read the director wanted extras as creatures, but was overruled from on-high. Would have helped to have real people instead of those really fake CG baddies.

One of Will Smith's better performances, though.

I still like the Vincent Price film. Probably truest to the source material, and quite dreary.

@willthepiper
Just finished watching Quiet Earth, and really liked the ending. Very thought provoking as it leaves you with a lot of possible theories. I would go as far as to say it's one of the best "open endings" that I have seen in a movie.

Thanks for the recommendation :-)
