Number the corners 1 through 8 and designate a point on the table near where the die is to be rolled. The upper face nearest the designated point is the result of the die roll. It worked fairly well one weekend when I didn't have a d8 available. Of course, you can label each corner of each face of the die and get a d24 but I didn't think of that at the time.

Jeez 8 is a power of 2. Flip 3 coins, throw 3 dice, etc. Easy. All that time spent numbering corners, you could have been gaming!
