Just curious to see what you playtesters thought of the FFG Star Wars X-Wing game rules, and minis?

Also, curious to know about how big their bases are?

Appears to me they are about 1" square, or possibly a little more, e.g. possibly 1.25" – 1.5" square.

Any info you can pass along on the rules, and the rough sizes of the minis, would be appreciated.

I played a demo of this last year at Gencon. The bases were about 1 to 1.5".

As to game play it's similar to Wings of War. Everybody uses a dial to simulateously select a speed/manuever. Pilots have a fixed iniative number (1-9). In initiative order (low to high) every fighter is moved according to their selected manuever. The game comes with rulers for each speed/manuever combination. The ruler is placed against the front of the base and the fighter is then moved to the end of the ruler. After moving each ship may perform an action. For example tie-fighters can barrel roll which moves them 1" left or right. Other actions include locking targeting sensors on a fighter, etc. After movement is complete firing takes place in reverse intiative order (high to low). Combat uses custom dice. There were symbols for hits and criticals. The defender then rolled dice to see if the hits were avoided. There were also cards but we didn't use them in the demo.
