Writing in Battlegames magazine on the topic of painting 6mm figures, Bob Barnetson remarks
I'm a big fan of the magic dip method of shading figures. Do you use the Dip with your 6mm figures? |

No dipping. Washing on particular cases and only with artistic colours. |

No. I paint the highlights and shadows on the old fashioned way, I find that dipping them just makes them look they have been swimming in gravy. I can see the appeal of dipping though. Time is money

Use a wash which to me for 6mm is sort of like dip with a brush |

I don't play with 6mm figures. |

I use the Magig "dip", but applied with a brush. I also use a lighter mix of the dip. |

I use washes or drybrushing over a black base (or both). Don't use 'the dip' though. Washes work well on 2mm figures as well as 6mm. |

Yes, I dip everything in the hope of covering up my, usually poor, paint job. Dave |

I use a wash of old GW ink. I do mean old too, probably getting on for 20 years since I bought them! I find a wash of lightly diluted brown ink works well. Black is a bit stark for most colours. For cloaks I paint a shade lighter low light with the coloured ink that is the closest match and then a light wash of the brown. |

Windsor & Newton nutbrown ink is the magic dip for 6mm. Once tried you will not turn back. |
