Well, the title pretty much says it all. "Out-of-your-genre" could be a lot of things, but let's say if you spend the plurality of your time gaming a genre, it's not out of your genre. I mostly game pulp and scifi. I don't game WWII, but would love to game Von Ryan's Express. |

Gangs of NY would be cool. |

Running Man. A good crossover between a role play system and a miniatures game. Any 1930s gangster movie. |

Out-of-my-genre? How about the dance competition between the city slickers and the lumberjacks for the sobbin' wimmin in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers? Everything mentioned so far are "wargamers' genre" movies. Let's face it. If those movies are "Out-of-my-genre", then so is Zulu and Waterloo. Heck, even West Side Story has wargamers' possibilities. |

I always wanted to game The Road
but I'm not sure it would be possible or enjoyable. Something about recreating the atmosphere and terrain of the movie appeals to me though. Gangs of NY is a good one, but I hated every single character in that movie and didn't care what happened to them not even 10 minutes into the movie. My son would LOVE if I started gaming Transformers. I suppose it is possible if I use his minis
err toys. Now that has me thinking. He's 4 and has a few years yet before we start to throw dice in earnest
Road to Perdition would be fun for a gangster era game. Not sure what you would do for a scenario, but a Pulp style O Brother Where Art Thou game would be fun. Keith |

Everything mentioned so far are "wargamers' genre" movies. I didn't mean non-wargame genre movies. I meant out-of-your-genre. If you game everything or have never seen a movie from a genre you don't personally game (often) that you would like to game, anyway, that's a legit answer. Waterloo would be out of "my" genre as I don't game Napoleonics unless coaxed with fine whiskeys. I do enjoy the hell out of watching other people game Napoleonic conflicts; I just don't play them. Often. |

Maybe Starship Troopers, Or WWI. |

I don't think there are any. There are some I have not tried, but that is more due to issues of time, space, and the need to sleep rather than not wanting to game the genre. |

I never do sci-fi but I dearly love the movie "Aliens." Bug hunts would be fun. For a brief time. |

The Producers. You have to find a director, actors, money to produce and who ever has the biggest Swiss Bank account and produces a flop wins! |

Barsoom It is a genre that I have wanted to try for along time. Then watching John Carter has just reinforced my desire to give it a go. But I have way too many projects incomplete as it is. Planet of the Apes would be a close second. |

Invasion USA where Chuck Norris single handed/footed whupped what seemed to be Commie Invaders. Which Planet of the Apes were you folks referring to? |

Even though I don't game the Plains Indian Wars, I've always, always been fascinated by the Battle of the Little Bighorn. I have read several books about it, and I think you could get several good games out of the entire battle, not just the brief "last stand" part, as well as the larger campaign. That would include Reno's initial attack and subsequent retreat, Benteen's defense of Reno Hill over the next two days, as well as General Crook's fight at the Rosebud, which was part of the same campaign. Not sure what non-skirmish system could best model that battle, though. |

I don't play Napoleonics, but there is a scene in Waterloo where the French cavalry is assaulting the British squares
and I don't game the ACW, but Gettysburg
|

I have a decent shot of POTA (classic) figure and Barsoomians, though as a pulp/scifi gamer, those would be in my genre. Even though Road Warrior would be too, like Von Ryan's Express, I would love to figure out how to do a good fast moving vehicle battle. |

I'm sure there have been a few movies about the last days of the Romanov's, but I have not seen any. I really was inspired by Dr. Zhivago. I have been collecting figures for "Shootout in Yekaterinburg." The premise is that the Romanov family survives into the winter of 1918. Rasputin was only wounded rather than murdered in 1916. He joined the White Russian cause and leads a group of monastic commandos to break the family free of their Bolshevik prison in December of 1918. This game will be about 700 years out of period for me. |
