Am I missing something? I have been reading through the new Field of Glory Napoleonic Rule book on the train for 4 hours from Barcelona (I know I am a slow reader) , and when I get to the army lists, there is no French Army to fight the British or Spanish armies that are listed. Ok, there are other French Lists for other years and territories, but why leave out the French Peninsular? . Or have I just got a book with a page missing. My dog did chew up my Lasalle rulebook a few years back, but is she now being more selective now and eating a page at a time. Phil |

Those army lists are not intended to be complete. You will be expected to purchase supplements in order to play. |

You will be expected to purchase supplements in order to play. Not true at all. Yu can play using the army lists in the rules, Purchase the two Army List books yet to be released or Make your own list using the 'Points guide' in the book. I've played a couple of games thus far,
Enjoyed them both. |

Yes,while they offer lists, I think that's only for competition purposes. There's nothing preventing knowledgeable people from creating their own armies, lists or no. |

Seriously, how difficult is it to create a suitable force for a game set in the Napoleonic era? While you might need some help with how to "rate" the troops for a particular rule set, the organization of Battalions, Regiments, Brigades, Division and Corps was pretty straightforward and is well documented, unlike trying to come up with a force for earlier eras, especially pre 1600. Myself I can't imagine why anyone would buy a Napoleonic "Army list" book, unless they were every, very new to the era, or it was a superb source of information about the troops, their uniforms, organizations, etc and they didn't already have better sources for same. |

Thanks everybody for your replies, Here in Alicante we play a mixture of Historical and Competition games. The rules we have been using are Lasalle which are great but the Army builder design for making tournament armies has its limitations. Most of the guys I play with seem to come from the Flames of war and Impetus background and so like making armies from points, they are also keen that the lists are official for fairness. I know wargamers have different opinions on competition games, but in Spain where wargamers are pretty scarce, its a way of them meeting old friends, making new friends and playing someone different. In Febuary a few of us met at Barcelona for a convention and tournament, see below for a report on the show link Its always played in a friendly atmosphere and due to playing some excellent guys, my next tournament will be in Mallorca in May. At the moment I have no opinions on the actual rules themselves until I have had a few games. I just found it frustrating that they printed the Peninsular British and Spanish Armies and decided to omit the specific French Army to fight against them. Phil |

You should try posting on their official forum, which I think the author frequents. |

they are also keen that the lists are official for fairness. That's utter rubbish. Just because the lists are "official" doesn't make them "fair". |

Thanks Bede, found the forum this morning, reference to it was at the bottom of the back cover of the rulebook. So I will be asking the question in the correct place if nobody has already. Margard, I mean't "fairness" as in everybody has to abide by the lists and not just make up their own interpretation of what units consists in the French Peninsular Army to use in a competition game. Sorry to have troubled you all. Phil |

and not just make up their own interpretation of what units consists in the French Peninsular Army to use in a competition game. Sigh. Whatever happened to the notion of actually reading a book or two? As Gonsalvo said:
the organization of Battalions, Regiments, Brigades, Division and Corps was pretty straightforward and is well documented, |

Nothing at all wrong with relying on army lists – we are wargamers not neccessarily historians |
MajorB | 16 Apr 2012 2:24 a.m. PST |
we are wargamers not necessarily historians I'm suggesting people should read books, not write them! Show me a historical wargamer that doesn't enjoy reading books about military history? |

you might try Nafziger orders of battle for the battle you are looking for. |
