Shocking, appalling, dreadful, scandalous, awful, deplorable, horrendous, inexcusable, atrocious, abysmal, horrifying, upsetting, distressing, unbearable, ghastly, hideous news but a great report. |

Great battle report, as to be expected from the good General Pettygree's always eloquent & exciting keyboard -- but the cliffhanger ending is almost too much to bear! |

The sand of the desert is sodden red, Red with the wreck of a square that broke; The Gatling's jammed and the Colonel dead, And the regiment blind with dust and smoke. The river of death has brimmed his banks, And England's far, and Honour a name, But the voice of a schoolboy rallies the ranks: 'Play up! play up! and play the game!' |

Henry Newbolt, after the battle of Abu Klea, where an entire Bn was found dead in square
I also like this latter, although since it came from the music halls, it was frowned upon at skool: 'Weep not my boys, for those who fell, They did not flinch nor fear. They stood their ground like Englishmen, and died at Abu Klea

Were any of the officers eaten by tigers in the night?
Excellent indeed! Let's wish for the soldiers their next encounter will be a tribe of friendly cave girls -no Lost World without such. Hoping they'll not have the same
demobilizing effect as the vahinés had on the crew of the Bounty.

Excellent report full of excitement and suspense. But, aroused animals? Was it the mating season? What did the soldiers fear? |

Chaps, Pards and Good Fellows All, Thank you for your generously written applause and interest in the AAR. Your comments are very appreciated. ---------------------------- Some in the Column are just beginning to think there may be something singularly odd/unusual/extraordinary about Terra Incognita. For aroused animal or insect life see: --- Chapter XI Terra Incognita link --- Chapter XII: Astounding Sights link --- Chapter XIII Primordial Dread link --- For those new to the story, you may want to start at the beginning with Chapter I Alexandra In Peril: link and advance from there to Chapter XIV, Terrible Battle. --- Respectfully, Bill |
