Dear Gentlemen, I'm painting a unit of Royal Velite Grenadiers. I know a lot about them including their uniform unit strenght and engagements in Catalonia (1808-1809). I also know that they didn't carry flag but its possible they had a guidon. Is there any academic who can tell me how was this guidon? Any picture showing the design? Thank you very much |

Rigo published a series of prints on Napoleonic flags – Number 5 of the series on the Army of Italy has both an Eagle & two white guidons with green fringes (one square & the other swallow tailed). (Unfortunately I do not have a copy of the accompanying text for this particular illustration
.) If you drop me an e-mail where I can send attachments, I will happily let you have a copy. |

According to Rigo's Planche D23 Royaume d'Italie (V) drapeaux de la Garde Royale 1805-1814, two eagles and flags were presented in 1813 for the first time. Prior to that only fanions were carried of which the two known are illustrated by Rigo. The one at D is probably grenadiers and is 46x56.5cm, that at C, probably carabiniers and 53.5x65cm. If you want to see the text please say so. |

That was exactly what I was looking for. I believe that "D fanion" is what I need Royal Velite Grenadiers. Thanks Mr. Prince of Essling for your help. Mr. XV Brigada, I would appreciate that text. I'll post pictures of the painted miniatures as soon as possible. |
