Easy for him to say. I guess his house is paid for. |

No, not at all
. Before I do anything I make an agreement with myself, with whatever I decide, never to waste time on regret. |

No. If you have problems with regret, then only sell items you purchased with the intent to sell, or which you have been commissioned to paint. |

Oh no! Regret! :) I just sent my heavily weathered Battlefront Shermans link off for a consignment sale. Oh well
they were destined to be either sold or given to a friend. John B TabletopHistory tabletophistory.blogspot.com |

Why I should hold on to an Aztec army I could never find opponents for when I had lost any interest in is beyond me. After I sold them at a flea market, I happily bought more stuff I really wanted, and probably still have. Or not, but it's only "stuff". Cheech and Chong never regretted selling their best weed, so

After having done it before, I would agree with this now. :) |

No, I do not agree. In regards to figures, I sold some of my earliest figures that I painted, however I still have a lot. In fact, I have so many more figures painted by others in my collections (what I have painted is a small percentage these days). It is all about what makes you the happiest! In regards to terrain, I have painted/sold so much including items that were some of my favorites. As long as I live, I can continue to paint more and find that my quality does improve with age! Simply enjoy the hobby! |

On occasion I've given stuff I've painted as gifts but I've not wanted to sell anything as yet. That may change over time though. |

If I paint for me, it stays with me. Painting with selling in mind later down the track is a whole different thing. Painting that ECW Royalist army
again
..because ( you fool ) shouldn't have sold the first one
. would be crap on a stick !! |

I tend to sell stuff I haven't used in ages to fund new projects. Whilst my painting improves and output is still good I don't mind selling stuff. I can replace it and it'll look better, plus some of the new figure ranges are nicer. |

Have sold plenty in the past and have regretted some of those sales. Everything I have painted now is being kept even if some of it falls out of use over time. |

He must have more space that I do. If I am not going to use it again (i.e. lost interest in the period / scale) out it goes – painted or not. |

etotheipi | 10 Apr 2012 3:18 a.m. PST |
No. I painted my first house. People also buy my paintings (trust me, no one is as surprised as me at that). Minis? A few. I mostly do wierd conversions, so people are either "What would I do with those?" or "Oh, dude, I gotta have those." |
Ed Mohrmann | 10 Apr 2012 3:51 a.m. PST |
Since I've not painted anything in years, it's easy for me to say 'No'. Way back, I did paint 15's and have given away, but not sold, some of those. Also painted some 25's years ago and have given them away as well. |

I am comfortably off: I would never sell anything I had painted. |
FusilierDan | 10 Apr 2012 4:31 a.m. PST |
I've done it in the past but now I would keep anything I have painted. |
Cherno | 10 Apr 2012 4:43 a.m. PST |
I think one never can get as much money for a painted miniature as it's worth to oneself, so I agree. An unpainted miniature in it's box or blister is just something you bought, even if ultra-rare and OOP. But once it is painted, it is personalized and you have a connection to it. |

I know people who paint and sell to make money . Personally I do not . They are part of my collection and even if they never see another game I will always have them and remember the joy of painting them . |
Fonzie | 10 Apr 2012 6:13 a.m. PST |

If I hadn't sold stuff I would need to buy another home. I do, bitterly, regret selling my Epic Tyrannids for all. ah me. Pat |
JohnnyPainter | 10 Apr 2012 8:18 a.m. PST |
I mostly give my stuff away or trade. Sometimes auction it for charity. I don't think I've ever outright sold any of my work – but I might be tempted to. Mostly, I just like bartering for stuff. Selling it sort of ruins it as a hobby for me, it becomes "work" |
Doug em4miniatures | 10 Apr 2012 8:19 a.m. PST |
Cardinal Hawkwood, what is a todge walloper? He may have missed the "r" off the end of todge, in which case, it means a meat-beater
. I tried typing the todge word in full with an "r" and got a severe bleeping. Doug |
Stronty Girl | 10 Apr 2012 9:38 a.m. PST |
As I frequently buy minis that look fun to paint but which I have no earthly use for after they are painted, quite a lot of those get sold when the shelves start to get crowded. |

Question dear Editor, is this Mike Siggins character refering to selling out collections or is he just anti selling of anything you paint? I'm wondering what the contex of his statement is truely getting at. Untill my question is answered I say sell what you want, when you want, for what ever reason you want, since most of us live in a free society at the moment and you're able to use your own free will. Just don't go thinking you're going to make money doing it. |

Everything in my wargame hobby collection is for sale – at the right price. I have sold many armies and reinvested the proceeds into something New & Shiny and I have very few regrets. Also, when you run out of space, it is time to cull the herd. |
