Here we are with another review of a product from Battlefront's Battlefield in a Box line. This entire lineup has had very good quality and great prices -- let's see if these new items measure up!

How big are those fields, 4x6"?

Yeesh, BF keeps making more stuff that makes me want to spend money instead of make it myself…

Why do so many wargame 'fields' look like small allotments?

Man…. you got an inside track? No word locally about cobblestone roads being available yet.

where did you get the road, it is not out yet?

Dirty Jon03 Apr 2012 7:05 a.m. PST

@Lion: I believe that there are closer to 6" X 8" or so.

@Von, Helm: Yes, we have an inside track -- we got them from Battlefront for review.

I wish they did thinner sheets of cobblestone for a village square!

Like the cobblestone roads but not for roads!

One issue I have had is looking at most village/town/city scenes is that the roads are LOWER then the buildings, not above their foundation.

For dirt roads they get worn down and in towns and cities most buildings are on sidewalks elevating them above street level (or the first rain you get dry roads and innundated buildings).

So these cobblestone roads might be better, especially given their thickness, for use as sidewalks to put your buildings on with either the terrain mat or other material as roads.

Just a thought.

@Marc I agree, but getting your roads lower than your buildings is easier said than done when you have to make the compromise on modular terrain. Surely, that's an understood side effect of having to store this stuff and allow for varying setups?

I do have some very cool "city blocks" type terrain pieces made by Crescent Root that do alleviate the issue.

However, it's a compromise I can easily overlook in the spirit of having the ability to both easily store and completely change my terrain from game to game!

I agree, I too have some of the Crescent Root items (thrilled he is back in business). He did a few straight city block type pieces, alas not currently available, and I urged Mark to do more along those lines. Perhaps if we all wrote him? :)

And yes, agree on the compromise for modular terrain which is what we use. Just saying these road pieces do have possibilities, in towns, for other than roads. For example pair these with the JR Miniatures cobble square. Some interesting possibilities there!

How wide are the roads? I'm not familiar with FoW base sizes, but judging from the figures about 5cm/2"?
