do your painting? When landscaping figure/vehicle bases with pebbles and twigs, do you leave them au natural or paint them Stone and Fallen Log colors? I used to add all that stuff last and call it good but now I add it all but grasses prior to priming and thus paint it. |

A bit of both. The last stones I used where white in colour and went on as is but had snow sprinkled on top. |

I do paint the landscape, especially when a particular season is represented. The long grass is now available in Spring, Summer and Autumn shades. Do not overlook all the Spring flowers appearing on bases. Cheers, |

When I use natural material, I select it for color in the first place. |

I always paint the landscape. Otherwise it looks odd beside the painted miniature. |

I never paint anything on my bases, and am pleased with the natural effect:

I usually leave natural stuff as is (having selected it for colour in the first place), this includes sand used for basing. I sometimes drybrush it if it needs a bit of highlighting. I find the underlying colour of the base it is attached to makes a huge difference to look. The same sand over a terracotta base looks like desert, whereas over chocolate brown it looks like churned mud. |

I don't use anything natural. Things like moss etc tend to dry out and break off. Not so for artificial static grass. My tastes lean towards painting everything. Even the static grass gets a lick of lighter color paint. |

Natural materials look out of scale and don't match my painting style besides, so everything gets painted. The only partial exception is I have some white texturing materials (model railroad ballast which is white crushed coral, and white playground sand). I have some basing schemes where I apply these on top of a painted base then insead of painting I apply a dark brown wash (or vanish wash), which also adds some stain to the white texture. |

My wife has come to accept that I will be bringing home tiny stones from time to time, washing them by hand, putting them on bases, and then painting the stones to look like, uh, stones. |
