I read an review of a rule set several years ago, it interested me, but I can't remember the name. I'm hoping someone here can help me.

Here's what I do remember:

set in (roughly) the medieval period,

there were rules for how soldiers were trained, so training them to withstand a siege doesn't help much with a battle

there were rules dealing with the overall strategy a leader took that influenced how the actual tabletop battle played out

something in the text referred to the gods holding the land sacred, so it wasn't necessarily historic

the author mentioned his ex-wife suggesting he simplify the rules on his website

it had gone through several editions

I (think) the latest edition was included as a news item here on TMP.

Every few months I decide to try and find it online, but I've had no luck.

Does anyone have any idea what these rules were called?

Well, golly. I perused this thread to see if I could be of help, but I have no idea. Zip. I'm fascinated by the description, though, so now I have to keep the window open to see what this turns out to be!

Was it, Day of Battle? It seems they update/morph every 8 months or so.

Dopes sound like Day of Battle. 4th edition is the latest. To be fair, the original Day of Battle was released in the late 1990s. So between there are now, that's hardly 8 months between.

Anyway, the website is here. dayofbattle.com

Yes it is Day of Battle. dayofbattle.com

Morphs every 8 months, geese give me a break.

First edition was 1997
Second edition 2001
Third edition 2006
Fourth edition 2012

PS: The price has always been $20 USD and still is.

On Military Matters is the publisher of 4th edition :)

And now there is also the "Day of Battle: The Norman Conquests" supplement that has just been released.

Its available through the "Day of Battle" website, and the "On Military Matter" website, too.

It includes a more army domain lists, and some rules campaigns, as well as three basic maps for use with the campaign rules that include England, France, and Italy.
