The start of my SYW Russian project. 10% of the infantry done – yay. Surprisingly fun and satisfying to paint.

I based them on the summer uniform with a few green coats thrown in for variety. Based for Die Kriegskunst and Black Powder.

Those are nice sculpts. You did a fine job on the painting and basing. GMB flags?

Bandolier23 Mar 2012 6:43 p.m. PST

Thanks. Yeah, GMB flags and Foundry figures.

Excellent! The Russians are vying to be next on my list after I finish off my Austrians and Prussians. Although I am tempted to do a few Hannoverians and Brits….

Continuation of the project. First brigade done.

you have painted them all as first battalions?

Bandolier26 Apr 2012 2:56 a.m. PST

If you are referring to the flags, I went by this in Kronoskaf

"Every battalion carried a white colonel flag and another in the regimental colour. The flags measured 1,82 m. x 2,66 m., were fringed in gold and mounted on a 3,35 m. red wooden pole with a gilded finial. Two golden cords with knots were attached to the flagpole."

All I did was give the 2nd battalion silver cords as a tabletop indicator.

Plus GMB make them in pairs…

You are probably thinking of the Grenadier and Observation Corps Rgts that only had one Colonel flag per Rgt.

Cardinal Hawkwood26 Apr 2012 6:58 a.m. PST

I know I have some GMB. but as I don't have battalions as such it never came up before..I was just thinking of the usual scheme of things in these matters and it. just seems very odd to have a colonel's white colour in every battalion..I am consulting with my flag expert (David of NBA)..we were only talking Russian flags the other day..Kronoskof has been wrong before in the flag scene..though if anything was to be out of the ordinary it would happen in Russia,,I am actually thinking the observation corps probably didn't carry flags but can't pin down why I think this..

Cardinal Hawkwood26 Apr 2012 7:04 a.m. PST

seems something odd in GMB ordereing , you don't seem to be able to order 2nd battalion Prussian flags..for example, odd indeed..

Fireymonkeyboy26 Apr 2012 8:14 p.m. PST

I love that red. Nice and deep, but still saturated.

I thought you indicated "a" somehow to show you wanted 2nd battalions (British, French, Prussian)… However, being a Yank, I always order from Buddy at Triangle – where by his convention you do indicated "a" on your order to show you wanted 2nd battalions. Have you emailed Grahame about it?

Bandolier26 Apr 2012 9:12 p.m. PST

Thanks FMB. It's done using a tried and true combination of Citadel Gore Red, Citadel Blood Red and Vallejo Scarlet. By building up those colours you can get that effect. No idea what their colours are now with the new Citadel names.

Paint Pig27 Apr 2012 4:47 a.m. PST

Never change a colour combination your happy with, unless barstards change it on you. I wouldn't give a monkey's about the flags the whole looks superb, don't mention the buttons grin
