Start of a new project:

Fur Trade Wars

This is the first test model.

Mega close up…

Thought I'd share. 30 or so more planned, then Voyageurs and some Natives… going to use Mordheim rules and make up a few gangs

Awfully well fed for mountain man, but tons of character – I love it.

It would be nice for a range compatible with the Foundry I already have – how does this one compare?

Hi cfM

Would fit in nicely with Foundry. Am an ex Foundry Sculptor

The mountain man looks really fun to paint.

I didn't know that you sculpted for Foundry. What codes did you sculpt?

Pan Marek26 Feb 2012 9:06 p.m. PST

OK. You asked. Too fat/short and the heads too big. Sort of "Gimli the voyajeur".

Narratio26 Feb 2012 9:17 p.m. PST

Not only Foundry, he reminds me of the first Essex ranges, many decades ago. Same style wide hips, sausage fingers and exagerated face. At 3 – 4 foot range he becomes an individual and a nice work of art, up close he looks like a mutant.

That said, I do like him.

Excellent work WW. I need something similar, but in 15mm.
Cheers,

Maybe that's what I'm missing. The exaggeration works at a distance.

He reminds me of one of those resin "Davy Crockett" dwarves I got many years ago from some company whose name "I forget.

I agree with most comments about chunkieness but the character, clothing and equipment are superb. Picking the Fur Trade era and specifically Coreur de bois is a great idea for FIW, AWI and War of 1812 collectors.
How are you marketing these figures for those who would like to buy them?

whiffwaff28 Feb 2012 4:30 a.m. PST

Thamks for the comments.

@ IronDuke596, These figures are a personal project of mine so wont be selling copies I'm afraid.

Wiffwaff, very nice.
Shame though won't be for sale. I can see lots of uses for him. :)

I have never tried sculpting, and always impressed to see what folks can produce. So thanks for sharing.

You should try to market them.I'm sure there is interest in 17th cen.colonial North America.

Could you use these for the Texan war of independence too?

I look at him and think post war of 1812 period out in the Rocky Mountains. Not quite FIW. Quirky, stocky, but he has a lot of character.
