Far worse then calling them soldiers is letting go once you have them, that is just crazy talk.

If I did ship them I would call them miniatures.

Doug em4miniatures24 Feb 2012 5:16 a.m. PST

I don't know what our Despatcher puts on the customs forms – I must ask her. whatever it is seems to work.

On the rare occasions I have to send stuff myself, I admit to wondering what the heck to call them. I try to avoid anything that sounds valuable so that Customs or thieves (notice I separate the two entities)are not unduly tempted to pry.
"Miniatures" could be valuable paintings; "metal castings" could be, er, metal castings, "figures" could be anything, "miniatures figures" could be valuable artwork etc etc.
I think I usually call them" model soldiers" and hope for the best.

You people are good for the custom's service bottom line.

Toy soldiers is good – no one likes to be a grinch.

Used toys is BRILLIANT!

Other than those who dont feel that they pay enough tax, the object is to get the soldiers in without taxes or duties.

When I worked for F-F-F-Foundry, way back when the mail order facility was on Guernsey, it was understood that there were cerain phrases used for different countries to avoid complications.

Of course, I don't remember what they were, and for where.

I do recall that 'miniatures' might suggest valuable jewelery-type items, and 'toy soldiers' sounded harmless.

Foreign Land? What? New Jersey?

I calls them whats they are. Toy Soldiers.

Game parts ?

jpattern224 Feb 2012 7:35 a.m. PST

"Toy soldiers" here. As MJS says, it sounds harmless, like something a grampa would send to his favorite grandson. :)

Grizzlymc24 Feb 2012 8:21 a.m. PST

Yup

Game parts, definitely attracts the highest level of duty. Miniatures, for sure, castings ooooh yeah!

LeadLair7624 Feb 2012 8:28 a.m. PST

I write "toys".

nazrat24 Feb 2012 9:02 a.m. PST

I tend to call them toy soldiers if they are strongly caricatured and model soldiers if they have more realistic proportions.

I would never send my "Beloveds" to a foreign land, especially New Jersey.

Deeside Defender24 Feb 2012 4:44 p.m. PST

I refer to them as my lads.

John the OFM24 Feb 2012 5:58 p.m. PST

I have found that if you write "hashish" on the Customs Declaration form, it unduly delays delivery.

Clovis Sangrail24 Feb 2012 7:44 p.m. PST

I sometimes send miniatures to a friend in the US, they are always "unfinished castings".
