Often called the last invasion of Britain. Read about it here: link Would you consider playing this scenario/campaign: 1) I have run it before 2) I have played it before 3) Sounds interesting and I would play it if someone else ran it 4) I have been inspired to run a game or campaign of this sometime in the future 5) Not my cup of tea but thanks anyways. |

At the end of the article it states: 'In August of the following year, another French force landed in County Mayo, Connaught, in the west of Ireland. In contrast to the debacle at Fishguard, this expedition saw some bloody fighting in which hundreds were killed in the Battle of Castlebar.' Perhaps this is the real last invasion of Britain? Actually, to answer your question, 5 Thanks! |

I helped reenact it in 1997, does that count? Lovely event, warm welcome, great ale. I wouldn't have thought much potential for an interesting game though. I'm guessing they are splitting hairs on Ireland not being part of Britain. |

Yup! See Marconi's link. But then we are a. Local and b. Idiots. :o) I've also put lots of photos and information on the General de Brigade forum here: link We even managed to slip a couple of Fishguard scenarios into the British Grenadier Scenario Book #3 while the editor wasn't looking. We put the game on at the Fishguard & Goodwick August Festival last year and again at 'Crusade 2012' in Penarth last month. It'll be getting another run out at the WMMS show in Wolverhampton on 11th March. As for how playable it is; the historical events were fairly bloodless, but there are stacks of historical 'tipping points' where it could have all been very different, which is what makes it interesting. |

I'm a solid "3". The whole thing was so absurd it would be impossible not to have fun playing it. |

If you answered 3, Martin Small and I will be taking our Fishguard 1797 game to WMMMS at Wolverhampton on Sunday 11th March and could use some more players. Rules are 'British Grenadier!', but detailed knowledge of the rules is not necessary, as they're easy to pick up. If you're interested, drop me a line. Mark |
