The question says it all. Obviously scale will have an influence, as will the ruleset, but I'd like to know what size games are typically being played: - less than 20 models per side - 20 to 50 models per side - 50 to 100 models per side - 100 to 250 models per side - 250 to 500 models per side - 500+ models per side - not a wargamer For me I play a range of games, but most often larger games in the 100-250 figure per side range: battles rather than skirmishes. |

These days: 20 men plus a few vehicles per side. Up until a few months ago:
over 1000 figures per side. |

Whatever fits on my table. Depends on figure size. |

Depends on scale but generally I like "lots". |

Most recent few games here have been 250-500. Of course, the figures are 10mm so the 24-man units are not as impressive as they would have been in 28mm. |

Against that, your dining table is not as impressive as the basketball court you would need in 28mm. |

15mm scale – 250-500 and 500+ |

For 4-6 players and interpretting models = stands, probably in the 250-500 per side range. A few will be smaller but we like the borderline out of control games. |

What constitutes a 'model'? A stand, I'm assuming? I prefer to have 20 – 50 stands per side unless we're playing FOG or something like that. In that case, 50 – 100. |

I think we seldom play a "skirmish" game with under 200 figures, so probably more. In regards to other forms of gaming, 500+ always with many exceeding 1,000+. We also play a number of games each year which exceed 3,000. |

Hmm quite a hard question, I never really think of counting the actual figures, I just count bases. A brigade level WW2 game will probably involve a couple of hundred figures and a few dozen vehicles OTOH we did a Memoir 44 game last week which only had four vehicles and maybe 100 figures. To do Koeniggratz I had to use almost my entire collection of Prussians & Austrians. Hundreds and hundreds of figures. Whereas my DBA Numidians have maybe 30 figs:) |

Usually 250 to 500+ per game in 25mm |
jdpintex | 22 Feb 2012 11:55 a.m. PST |
depends. We've had less than 10 ACW naval models on a table up to way over 500+ 15mm Napoleonics. |
corporalpat | 22 Feb 2012 1:16 p.m. PST |
All the above (except not a Wargamer). |
Scorpio | 22 Feb 2012 2:28 p.m. PST |
Less than 20, most of the time. |

I suggest you add more size categories. A reasonably sized Napoleonic battle between 2 divisions at a 1:20 roster scales will require 1,000-2,000 figures. Typically, this is what we play at home with 2-4 players on the back porch. The annual Rapier Convention in Jacksonville traditionally features a Corps or larger battle with easily twice that or more. Rick |

20 or less per side. I have enjoyed many larger games but always prefer skirmish. |
