I am always disappointed by how much people are willing to pay for a pack of miniatures put up for sale by a private part. If you offer an opened pack of miniatures painted to a standard where you feel you do not need to repaint them how much should you reasonably expect to get for it if you put it up sor sale?

200% of the original purchase price

The painting should add value.

Anything less than $5 USD per figure for a well painted 28mm figure is a good deal. Mind you, some people have an over-inflated opinion of their painting skills!

200%

For historicals I could see it adding value… for sci-fi/fantasy, quite the opposite.

Odds are good that I do not place the same value on the time spent by the painter that s/he does.

They are worth exactly what someone will pay for them. No more, no less.

Well painted (to me) – 200% or higher

Tolerable (not really my standard but OK enough to use without repainting) – 150-75% depending on quality

Painted minis means that I will have to invest my time soaking and scrubbing the minis before I can paint them. I will use minis painted by others only until my stripper bucket is available for use. I am more of a mini collector and painter than a gamer though.

It also depends on the minis, I would be hesitant to pay over 50% of retail for current GW even if they were painted by an award winning painter with real gold leaf as I percieve their value to be around that point. I would pay 300% (or more) of msrp for GWAR figures even if they were painted in concrete and AIDS by a spastic Nazi.

Edit: I did't see the previuos post for miniatures that require repainting until after posting my response. I apologize for going of topic.

Painted figures always seem to sell on ebay for more than the cost of the unpainted figure. So I would say 150 to 200% seems reasonable.

See my post on your other topic about painted miniatures. If the buyer agrees your paint job is excellent then up to 250% of retail in a long sale. In quick sales less.

If the buyer doesn't agree with your assessment, then if he will strip the minis and repaint 25-50% of retail. If he will just rescue it by retouching or shading/highlighting, mabye 50-125%.

Back before miniatures became so expensive and still metal, the rule of thumb was to double the price so 100%. However there were exceptions including items on consignment, being sold for others. The painter would set a base price and the seller would add to it in order to make it worth their while.
The best deal always came from divorce or estate situations, which are sad but where bulk deals would create a lower price.

Today pricing for painted has dropped in most cases. Few people wil pay the high doubling of high priced castings. This is especially true for plastics. The tendacy in plastics is that you are lucky to get face value. So now the rate with painted may run closer to 50%. However it as with any other market, depends on the product and demand.

Depends highly on the usability of the figures. Unusual periods and/or strange basing might make your figures not high in demand, no matter how good the painting job.

In my experience selling painted figs is mostly a buyer's market (i.e. Buyers setting the prices), not a seller's market.
