If it became a new policy to remove the anonymity aspect of voting in TMP polls, how would that affect your voting if at all?

Connard Sage17 Feb 2012 7:03 a.m. PST

Not bovvered. I mostly vote 'no opinion' anyway.

Personal logo x42brown Supporting Member of TMP17 Feb 2012 7:06 a.m. PST

It would not affect my voting at all. I think it would be messy to implement to no real purpose.

Grizzlymc17 Feb 2012 7:09 a.m. PST

I would quiver with anticipation as people saw my naked opinion with no cloak of anonymity. I would agonise for hours about what opinions would be popular and what would be best kept to myself.

Oh, the stress, the embarassment!

Connard Sage17 Feb 2012 7:12 a.m. PST

You're not taking this seriously are you?

epturner17 Feb 2012 7:25 a.m. PST

Considering how many folks here have "screen names" rather than their real names, I don't think it really makes a bit of difference.

Any more than this opinion.

Eric

Connard Sage17 Feb 2012 7:26 a.m. PST

I defy anyone to find any web forum where every user posts under their own name.

I don't know why folks get so het up about it.

John the OFM17 Feb 2012 7:35 a.m. PST

Why would we want to do that?
The secret ballot is sacred, even for pseudonyms.

Dropzonetoe Fezian17 Feb 2012 7:37 a.m. PST

Because John I want to base my votes on popular opinions of others. I don't feel qualified to voice my own opinion :)

epturner17 Feb 2012 7:38 a.m. PST

Connard;
Sort of my point.

"Doctor Q-Bert" is now revealed to not like Flaming Hamsters of Warthumper…

So what? Who cares? I certainly don't.

Because we're curtain twitching prodnoses?]

I know I am.

epturner17 Feb 2012 7:47 a.m. PST

I think there's an antibiotic that can help with that…

Eric

Allen5717 Feb 2012 8:00 a.m. PST

Who cares. Im not afraid. I just wont vote if I feel my opinion would lower your adulation of me.

Connard Sage17 Feb 2012 8:02 a.m. PST

Eric

Good, because the Prep H ain't working.

epturner17 Feb 2012 8:10 a.m. PST

Connard;
I suppose I should have asked for that. Unfortunately, I almost cost The Man a keyboard by spitting up my cuppa when I read that post.

Lovely. A new mess to clean. Thank you.

Save when I ran an ISP, I never used a 'screen name,'
nor do I use one now, in any forum I frequent.

And I turned-off Polls a while back, so never see 'em
now. Revealed or Anonymous makes no never mind to me.

ming3117 Feb 2012 8:25 a.m. PST

I am not afraid of how I vote . Cept when we lose and people dissappear in the night

richarDISNEY17 Feb 2012 8:30 a.m. PST

Why would it?
I don't care if folks know.

The antibiotics are no good to me.

Assuming that my body processes one whisky per hour

This hangover should be gone in ……….

35 years, maybe I got a decimal point or two wrong.

Anyway, I only came off antibiotics 48hr ago, no more please.

How did you know I was a prod nose, I thought that was a little secret shared between me and my lady freinds.

Anyway, in the interests of transparency I am John William Henry McIntyre, born in Rangoon 4th November 1958, late of London, Sydney, various tropical shabeens and now sunny La Serena Chile, geologist, liker of pie, AND I HATE Flaming Hamsters of Warthumper.

Now you all know my secrets I'm not voting any more.

Lentulus17 Feb 2012 1:10 p.m. PST

I suppose my poll comment would have to be consistent then. Or not.

Are you mad?

Once identities are revealed it opens the door to graft & corruption on a massive scale.

People would be offering paper bags of 28mm figures to get your vote.

"Pssst. Hey, Mac, vote 'yes' in Do Wargamers Smell like Soggy Dogs & this 1/12th Tiger is yours."

Non Irn Bru17 Feb 2012 1:35 p.m. PST

I'd have no problem with such a change.

However, it would give TMP conspiracy theorists data to work on when there are polls requesting ‘policy' change or to add or remove boards. I have a dark vision of a future TMP where we are not unified as one happy family but divided, brother against brother.

If this goes to poll I'm voting no opinion because I can't help myself.

Grizzlymc17 Feb 2012 1:46 p.m. PST

Ochoin, I have never seen the case for argued with such persuasion.

How long do you think before we sink to such depravity, and could I have a 6mm panzer division rather than a 1/12 scale tiger, and seeing how frail 6mm Nappies are can I have them in a box wrapped in tissue paper just like Leon at Adler sends me?

Delthos17 Feb 2012 2:20 p.m. PST

What's the purposed of revealing them? It wouldn't change my vote in any case.

John the Greater17 Feb 2012 2:36 p.m. PST

Whoever offers me the most 15mm hoplites gets my vote.

Karpathian17 Feb 2012 2:41 p.m. PST

As for bribery I can only quote the great Groucho…..
"Those are my principles, and if you don't like them… well, I have others".

CeruLucifus17 Feb 2012 5:18 p.m. PST

The survey data should remain anonymous. It is easier to read that way, and blocks opportunities for no one. Any poster who wants to contribute an opinion can do so in the usual message board fashion.

The data collected is also better. Statistical science shows that as a general rule, people are more inclined to answer honestly when their personal response won't be shown.

Whether this is a rational behavior on the part of the answeree is beside the point, so it is not really meaningful to point out that Joe FigureCollector from Timbuktu has nothing to fear for saying he likes resin better than pewter. The record shows that if you put enough Joe FigureCollectors in a room and ask them the question, the answers are different when they know everyone will hear them, and enough correlation has been done between answers and behavior to demonstrate that an answer with assurance of anonymity is closer to how the person really feels.

This is why in democracies our ballot boxes are closed.

Regarding handles versus real name on forums, I've been back and forth on this my whole online life. I started out using my full name. Right now I favor using a handle, and in fact changed my TMP username only a couple weeks ago.

Grizzlymc17 Feb 2012 5:51 p.m. PST

Wow!

Who would have thought that there were enough Joe figure collectors from Timbuktoo. Or that anyone would study them so meticulously.

Kaoschallenged17 Feb 2012 6:15 p.m. PST

Meh. I wouldn't care. Robert
