Now that Osprey has published Apache Tactics 1830-1886, it seems relevant to ask: which Native American tribe is your favorite to field on the tabletop? |
Connard Sage | 17 Feb 2012 6:07 a.m. PST |
'Tribe' is a loaded word. Aztecs, Inca and Maya. They're native Americans, and they had sophisticated societies. Not what you'd call tribes. |
epturner | 17 Feb 2012 6:11 a.m. PST |
Seminole. They never surrendered. Tribe or no. Eric |

For me it is the tribes of the Six Nations Iroquois. But Woodland Indians in general, whether Iroquoian or Algonkian are favorites |
Frederick | 17 Feb 2012 6:21 a.m. PST |
Fond of the Sioux and Cree (the Missus is part Cree) – but my favourite has to be the Apaches |

Aztec and Iroquois for me |

Seminoles-longest, costliest indian war which also involved army, navy (marines) and coast guard. Also the only time indians captured a naval vessel by a boarding action. |

epturner | 17 Feb 2012 7:14 a.m. PST |
Interesting thing about the Hekawi. They were supposed to be called the Figawis, but the Censors caught the alliteration and said "No". Apparently nobody ever said naughty words to each other in the 1950's and 60's

at least my family did. Eric |

Oh, that's a toughie
The Tonkawas, for realizing that you haven't really defeated your enemy until you've had him for dinner. The Commanches for managing to not only stop but to actually reverse the westward expansion of the whites, if ever so briefly. And the Mohawks for being such snappy dressers. |

I favor the Pawnee and, being a California native myself, the Chumash. The Chumash frikkin' *minted money* -- their dentalium "wampum" has been found as far south as Mexico and as far east as the great plains. They also made sawn plank boats. |

Growing up in Nebraska it was always the Pawnee. Now I'd probably say any of the Eastern Woodlands, but I do know this beautiful Lakota woman

I would say the Shawnees as they battled Colonial expansion for over 50 years. |

Shawnee. They really were a serious threat to European expansion in a way that no other tribe had been. Yeah, i think Tecumseh is pretty cool. Thanks, John |

Miami – Tribe of war chief Little Turtle (Mishikinakwa),along with Blue Jacket, and a confederation of tribes defeated Josiah Harmar's expedition 1790, as well as Arthur St. Clair's in 1791. Failed against Anthony Wayne at Ft. Recovery (1794), turned command over to Blue Jacket and advocted peace w/ the US thereafter. |
