Let's say somehow you had to pick just one year to represent in your gaming, what year would you pick? I say 1812: Russia, Spain, North America. Good variety there

1941 – lots of action in the air, at sea, and on land! |

I would add in 1942 or 1943 -- Russia, Desert, Italy, Pacific, with different styles of fighting and different terrain. Somewhere in the punic wars. Carthage and Rome are totally different fighting styles, with Gauls, Spaniards, etc. Fall of Rome, with 2 types of barbarians (Goths and Huns), Romans, Sassanids. (Lots of different years in this period to pick!) Seven years war with actions in India, North America, etc. I cant pick a year though -- I dont know enough. |

June 1942 through May 1943 as you have just about everybody who fought in WWII fighting somewhere. |

1942. Lots of WW2 action, and you can still get in some good pulp games in.

1940. The war was shiny and new. The uber weapons had not come out yet and the forces were evenly matched equipment wise. The tactical situations were defined by the best general, the best tactics and not the best equipment. The battle for the Atlantic was ramping up as was the Battle of Britain. There was the Invasion of Norway and Invasion of Greece both of which the allies could have done better. They might have even handed the Germans their first serious reversal in Norway had they been more aggressive! There was lots of action in the desert and, of course, there was the Invasion of France. A few adjustments and France could have worked out very differently for the allies. Finally, in the pacific, the UK was hard pressed to hold back the might of Japan and the Flying Tigers were at their height. It is just a great year and the war was probably evenly matched all around at this point. |

1644 for me. There are still possibilities for both sides but things have got past the initial `what the are we doing` stage. |

1813 – (nearly) ever state in Europe fights, and some on more than one side. |
Dropzonetoe | 16 Feb 2012 9:46 p.m. PST |
That would be in the year 2525 However this is only true as long as man is still alive and woman can survive. |

1812 followed by 1813. Especially if you ignore the side show in North America. |

@dropzonetoe – ugh. I got that. I usually find the most interesting period/year to play is the one going on the table next to me. They always seem to be having more fun. |
