I haven't for a good while but my friends have all been talking about getting a game together this month. I can't wait, as it is a superb SF rules set.

Mithmee10 Feb 2012 1:49 p.m. PST

There are still things in it that I do not like.

yorkie o110 Feb 2012 1:56 p.m. PST

Yes, but not lately … (to quote John Leachy) IMO, it truly is the best of all the iterations of Epic. (Of course if this question was asked on the Tactical Command site, you'd have a lot more positive replies) wink … Regardless, as time progressed, there are a number of other rules systems that could be "better" based on a gamer's tastes. DRM's Seed of War, Strike Legion, FWC, to name my top picks … One thing I can say about Epic, it is a bit Infantry-centric, ie: has a lot of different infantry types. Where other games like Dirtside, are more Armor-centric. And puts more details in the Armor rules and has a limited amount of infantry types … Nothing wrong with either, really … Do what works for you …

Calico Bill10 Feb 2012 4:01 p.m. PST

Yes, about once a month. We also use the minis in other sci-fi games. E:A is easily my favourite game and I wish I could get more games of it played.

Space Monkey10 Feb 2012 6:28 p.m. PST

We play Space Marine but I've yet to get my main opponent to give EA a shot.
I'd like to try it, even though I'm plenty happy with Space Marine and Dirtside.

Lion in the Stars10 Feb 2012 6:30 p.m. PST

Not for a long time. I just don't do 6mm anymore.

WarrenB10 Feb 2012 6:58 p.m. PST

Not for a while. Currently thinking of grabbing some 6mm colonial brits and starting a new Praetorian IG army. Hopefully that'll get me a few new games sometime.

* Prefer earlier editions

I never have liked E:A. It stripped away everything that was fun about Epic 40,000 (3rd edition) in order to please the 1st/2nd edition fans.

Would be interested to try again now though….

Only 6mm now is setting up a fubar game and that's stalled

svsavory11 Feb 2012 12:35 p.m. PST

I still have all my old 1st/2nd edition stuff but haven't played it in years. Never tried E:A.

WarrenB11 Feb 2012 5:54 p.m. PST

Get the free rules download from the GW site and some army lists there or on TacComm. Won't cost much to see if you like it evil grin

Starting this spring. I have my orks mostly ready, and I have opponents lined up with Guard and Eldar.

I believe that EA is the best set they have released. Space Marine and Net Epic were fun. Played the heck out of the former. However, all the special rules would drive you crazy and slow the game to a crawl. Most games would run an hour a turn or more.

EA takes what was best from Space Marine and Epic 40k and combines them into an excellent set of rules. If GW had any clue or desire to revisit Epic in a big way you'd see these rules being played everywhere.

I'd play a LOT more if I had local opponents. The guys around here haven't played anything but Space Marine and don't own EA. The rule book is somewhat ink intensive and not readily available on the secondary market. At least my son and I can game it occasionally.

Thanks,

John

Kealios12 Feb 2012 7:39 p.m. PST

I play it as my main, most favorite sci-fi game. I love Epic: Armageddon, but never played earlier editions. The support at the Tactical Command forums is fantastic. So..

YES :)

myrm1113 Feb 2012 7:21 a.m. PST

* yes
* using the minis with a different ruleset (FWC)

Always felt Epic in its various incarnations was the GW game that suited me best. Big scale, big toys, lots of infantry running round to ruin the big boys day.

Handy to play FWC with as well.

moocifer13 Feb 2012 10:12 a.m. PST

* sort of, in every sense yes bar actually playing on the tabletop against others

Pohtonen14 Feb 2012 11:29 a.m. PST

*yes, but using the NetEpic ruleset

Sir Samuel Vimes14 Feb 2012 4:25 p.m. PST

Multiple answers for me.

No, I have never played the current version.

I used to play and enjoy Epic 40,00 quite bit.

I just picked up FWC based on good press from TMP a the web as a whole.

The prices on Epic have gone totally mad, even for workshop, so I'm very happy to find that my meager amount of marines should do well in FWC and I have enough Orks that I can let some go as surplus to the requirements of even a large FWC game.
