I did not get my point across here:
TMP link

I blame my unclear thoughts.

I really think that Dear Editor should not consult the Peanut Gallery when it comes to his bread and butter. I am talking particularly about changes in TMP Policy.

Obviously, Polls with ":needs more boobies" and "tell the OFM to go shave his belly with a rusty razor" are not meant to be taken seriously. They are there for entertainment.

But, a Poll that asks if we need a 6 month hiatus on New Boards should require a majority vote of all votes cast. And, it did get that, despite my best efforts to vote early and vote often. grin
So be it.
YES beat both NO and "no opinion" combined, with 51%. So, it won, fair and square.

I really think that something this important needs a clear majority to implement, not just a plurality.

It would also serve me right gor my meddling if Dear Editor would start such a Poll and muddy the waters with "Not a 54mm gamer", "I like pie" and "needs more boobies". grin

Jay Arnold02 Feb 2012 7:29 p.m. PST

Needs more 54mm pie boobies.

But, yes, "offishul polisee" polls should be 50% +1 vote.

John the OFM02 Feb 2012 7:31 p.m. PST

Which is not to say that Dear Editor can't run these any damn way he pleases! grin

The poll should be only for our Dear Editor. So the poll should be 100%. However he could run an opinion poll of the users that would be non binding if he so chooses.

Or a binding poll of paying advertisers.

SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER02 Feb 2012 7:57 p.m. PST

Majority, or we'd be trying to form coalitions!

highlandcatfrog02 Feb 2012 8:04 p.m. PST

50%+ of the yes/no vote only.

If there are other options such as "no opininion" or "I don't care" those votes shouldn't be counted at all. In other words, only count the votes of those who choose either yes or no for such momentous topics, upon which the fate of the free world rests…

Florida Tory02 Feb 2012 8:09 p.m. PST

I agree with highlandcatfrog. The current scheme works well. I do not want my no opinion choices misinterpreted.

Yeah, 50% or more… otherwise you'll just about always find enough crackpots and enablers to get a thing passed.

Sergeant Paper02 Feb 2012 9:06 p.m. PST

Meh.

John the OFM02 Feb 2012 11:05 p.m. PST

Dear Editor does not have to propose them, nor should he feel bound by the results.

Come on. How hard can it be to program a Poll to give the Right Result? Who would know, anyway? grin

14th Brooklyn02 Feb 2012 11:47 p.m. PST

50+%

I think we should take it in turns act as a sort of co-editor for the week. All the decisions of that co-editor have to be ratified in a special bi-weekly poll by a simple majority in the case of purely internal affairs but by a two-thirds majority in the case of more major changes.

wink

Only if a quorum is introduced too!

No

Unless the question is yes/no

so no "no opinions" no "boobies" no "zardoz" no "robins" no "not a wargamer" etc

If it's yes/no/and noise on the signal then if yes > no it should pass. If people don't want it vote "no" not "random meaningless noise".

John;
So did you use a rusty razor?

No

Feet up now03 Feb 2012 6:58 a.m. PST

49% of me says YES!

99% behind highlandcatfrog ^^ suggestion.

Connard Sage03 Feb 2012 7:44 a.m. PST

I'm confused. What are we voting for this time?

jdpintex03 Feb 2012 8:09 a.m. PST

Wouldn't it be easier to have TMP policy set by going against whatever the OFM is for??

Connard Sage03 Feb 2012 8:10 a.m. PST

That gets my vote.

Lentulus03 Feb 2012 8:11 a.m. PST

TMP policy should be set by executive decision of the editor. Its his business if he uses polls or chicken entrails as input to that decision.

John the Greater03 Feb 2012 9:09 a.m. PST

I am fine with any decision made by the Editor (blessings be upon him) and the polls should merely be regarded entertainment for the masses.

To be decided by an absolute majority.

Hey, the "6 month moratorium on new Boards" passed with a clear absolute majority of all votes passed, despite me throwing 3 of my Sybils at it!
So, it is possible, even with a "no opinion" choice.

I think that "policy" votes should \be a straight YES/NO vote with no option for "no opinion".
Polls on "Which singer of the 80s has the nicest boobies?" are not "policy" votes, and votes for David Hasselhoff are as valid as any others.

StarfuryXL504 Feb 2012 3:50 p.m. PST

That depends on whether the question is which one has the nicest boobies now, or which one had the nicest boobies back in the '80s.
