The Priory of Sion link could be turned into a great 'Cult', active since the Crusades, though probably gaming would be restricted to European settings?
link
link

Before Da Vinci and Newton, Roger Bacon link could be added as Grand Master! And why not Galileo Galilei link?

By Lace Wars times the 'reported' Grand Master is Charles de Lorraine link: could the SYW cover an 'underground' war between the Knights of Sion manipulating Catholic monarchies and the Free Masons using Frederick as a pawn?

Of course the Priory is directly associated with the Grail, the Templars link / YouTube link / link / link YouTube linkYouTube linkYouTube link and the Cathars en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otto_Rahn / YouTube link
Nothing forbids to add the Lance of Passion, and even the Witchblade YouTube link (Joan of Arc also is a favorite topic of conspiracy theories) to the Great Artifacts of Power involved…

Besides the well known West Wind ones link some minis for the 'Ex illis' game link

picture

could be of use?
(Btw the setting of the game is *epic* or totally crazy, according to personal taste ex-illis.com/wikien/Storyline : look at the characters involved ex-illis.com/wikien/People !).

Or the fictional Delta Knights.

John the OFM31 Jan 2012 8:50 a.m. PST

This is when we really miss Alen. grin

It;s been my favorite conspiracy since I first read "Holy Blood, Holy Grail".
It explains EVERYTHIGN!

They have been around for a "very long time", but it does make me wonder about their competence. All this plotting and planning and schemng, and no results.

John the OFM31 Jan 2012 8:54 a.m. PST

I also loved the fact that for the authors of HBHG to collec from Dan Brown for ripping off their book, they would have had to admit that it was fiction.

jpattern231 Jan 2012 9:18 a.m. PST

All this plotting and planning and schemng, and no results.
No *obvious* results, at least to us. Which just means their plans are working very, very well.

See how conspiracy theories work? EVERYTHING is evidence of the conspiracy. A success is a success, a failure only *looks* like a failure.

Jpattern2,

Or that's just what they want you to think!

No, thats only what the Priory wants you to believe. A failure only looks like a failure because it really is a failure and therefore succeeds in failing to prove they are not successfull.

The Priory is great pulp if you ignore the Hayes code. A publisher, or movie studio that used the Priory in the 1930's would have the Catholic Church's League of Decency all over them, and these were very powerfull foes in the pulp era. Bleeped text 'em if they can't take a joke. I'd go with them, although I want my players to believe I don't use them in my own game, so I would say I don't use them in my games.

And you don't need to limit your games to Europe, a secret war between the Priory and the Si Fan would be great globe trotting fun with missionaries and western businesses all over the world. I just don't use that in my game.

John the OFM31 Jan 2012 12:51 p.m. PST

"Legion of Decency", not League. I was there, trying to go to movies as a teenager. grin
If anyone could explain to why and how "The Odd Couple" got a CONDEMNED rating, I would love to hear.

flooglestreet31 Jan 2012 2:18 p.m. PST

The Odd Couple ridiculed the Catholic Church. If you follow the movie closely you will see how they tried to cover up anti-catholic bias by not showing any. More specifically, Doc Simon thought he could get away with anti-catholic views by not mentioning… The Spanish Inquisition! YouTube link

John the OFM31 Jan 2012 4:34 p.m. PST

That makes perfect sense, considering the thread we are on.

flooglestreet31 Jan 2012 4:54 p.m. PST

No John, it doesn't make sense. You have confused the 18th Century scenarios board with the Utter Drivel board. Don't feel bad, it's a natural mistake.

Zenit Miniatures link 'Executioners' make good cultists

Unfortunately they are obviously in trousers, so cannot be used without modification before, say, 1850…

The whole thing is just an illusion foisted on us by the Detremental Energy Robots. link

Nice (Kev White!) Hasslefree 'Lenore' TMP link could become an attractive cult leader / high priestess in ceremonial garb:

Abdul, I agree. The Prior makes an excellent Pulp Cult, or whatever you need them to be.

Also, doesn't Brigade Games do some nice figs for them?

And yes, I've been eying that new fig by Hasslefree for a Cult member for awhile, but its only available now is resin I think.

I suppose, in the spirit of threadomancy, she could be 'she who must be obeyed…' ;->=

Flooglestreet, you are mistaken: the illusion is powered by an deficiency of Orgone energy! Quickly, into the accumulator chambers, everyone!

Musketier05 Mar 2014 8:55 a.m. PST

"And why not Galileo Galilei?"
Galileo was a Grand Master. I know this – I was there.

"All this plotting and planning and scheming, and no results."
- How can you be so sure the present world order is not precisely the result of it all?

Oh, and the ceremonial garb of the Grand Priestess never included thigh boots – sorry.

I meant to reply to this thread, but I forgot. Or they got to me.

I originally conceived my current campaign at toy/diorama scale (1/32-1/35).

At that scale one could easily put together an Inner Circle of Ascended Masters.

IIRC, in addition to George Washington (Weishaupt after the "switch", of course), there were figures like Stalin, Churchill, Moses, Mamie Eisenhower, George Reeves-as-Superman, Bonaparte, etc. that one could use for a Mid-Century version of the Secret Rulers of the World.

Even if one were to game at a smaller scale, they could be giant statues, or demagogue-like apparitions, who control their various and nefarious schemes through their multifarious interrelated internationalist organizations.

There is a wide variety of stuff in cheap two-inch army men on ebay.

Also, if you're going Pulp, go full-on early Fritz Lang. From the Dr. Mabuse period. Two-hour-long epic gripping terror and eerie abstract expressionist psychodrama. In black-and-white, with plenty of chin light.

If you're interested in extending the time period, to include Interwar/Weird War 2/Modern What-If/Sci Fi, I suggest the works of Robert Anton Wilson and William Cooper. I'll leave it to the interested aficionado to work out who the proxy entities might be.
