I have a pack of 15mm Tin Soldier Macedonian Pikemen. They are Code# HB14 and consist of 3 different figures which you can see below: link 1. One figure has a standard phrygian type helmet. 2. Another figure has a phrygian style with some sort of thin crest on top. 3. The last figure has a corinthian style helmet. I have never seen any pictures or illustrations of helmet 2, and helmet 3 I have never seen associated with pikemen as they are from a normal hoplite period. Are 2 and 3 just fantasy? |

Later Hellenistic armies seem to get away from the old Thracian helmet. Somewhat lower/flatter helm. 1 Looks like that attempt. Or maybe 1 is an Attic Helmet. 3 is a Thracian helmet and looks fine. 2 seems to be a variation on the Thracian helmet. 14a looks a lot like a Gallic/Celtic helmet. 14b is a bit odd. |

Tony; Peter Connolly has pictures of these helmets in his book" The Greek Armies". I believe "Tin Soldier" used this book as one of their main references also. |

Thanks all. I am just glad that they aren't some "pulled out of their rear" design. I will be using these guys to build the core of my Ptolemaic force. |
