Do you paint a figure from the inside first or the outside? By this I mean that after undercoating, do you start with the face first(inside) or, as I do, boots & hat(outside) ? I suspect for most people it will be inside. |

I do flesh, then boots and hats, then coats etc. By doing flesh then boots I can do the latter while the former is still drying. |

Neither. Uniform, boots, webbing, weapons. Flesh Hat/helmet Insignia Always done it that way. Sort of bottom->top after the uniform is done. For two colour uniforms I do the jacket then the trousers. |

Flesh first, then I do big first, shirt pants etc

Same as Martin, sort of expanding from the middle. It means large areas can be quickly covered without worrying about details. |

As a general rule I paint metallics first, then use the inside out method. For example, I almost always end up painting weapons to completion before starting with the figure holding them. |

Blimey
exactly as Martin said (but I might do trousers first, jacket second*) Phil *the other governor (standard for anyone, I'd assume) is going pragmatic on colour changes: yellow before red if possible, green before blue etc. just to minimise the risk of contamination PS: 'just to minimise the risk of contamination' means in case I'm lazy cleaning up or haven't let the paint dry fully! |

I do the biggest areas of any single colour first and then the rest in pretty much any order with hats normally last. |

Flesh and then biggest areas to smallest. For some reason, bayonets seem to always be last. |

Flesh first. So I guess Inside.

"bayonets seem to always be last." Bayonets and spearpoints are singularly satisfying to paint, so I can understand leaving them until last. My 'uniform then pick out the bits' approach is aimed at rapid painting as you can just spray or drybrush the basic uniform colour over the whole figure. When I used to paint modelling type figures I always did the flesh first, mainly because 'Military Modelling' said to do so. I've no idea why now, it just makes doing the rest so much harder, probably because I am rubbish at painting collars and cuffs straight:) |

Boots and hat first, always. Webbing, kit and equipment next. Trousers. Facings if any. Tunic. Face last. |

Usually paint from black so faces and hands first – gives tham a little personality to encourage me belts, webbing, collars and cuffs, packs etc next – usually fiddly and I'm not the world's most accurate painter so they usually get 'touched up' at the edges with black Then big bits of uniform followed by last details |

Outside normally Inside some times Poorly – often |

inside out . You do not have to go past something already painted to get to an unpainted area . |

Biggest areas first e.g. base, trousers, jacket. Flesh usually late as I paint hands after the equipment they're holding. |

Chromaticaly. I usually paint a number of related figures together and sequence colors starting with (what I approximate to be) the largest area across the figures, then follow with the next smallest color and on down. This is mostly because I like to mix custom colors and also to box colors. |

Flesh last, metallics after matt spraying the figure. Matt. |
