I had reason to look at the recent tracking history of a shipment via Parcelforce. The shipment, which was fully and correctly addressed, with the full and correct postcode, generated the following tracking result: Date Time Location Tracking Event 05-01-2012 11:41 Solent Depot Delivered 05-01-2012 08:02 IOW Received at delivery depot 04-01-2012 23:38 National Hub Received and processed 04-01-2012 20:23 Solent Depot Collected from customer 04-01-2012 20:09 Solent Depot Tracked out of Local Hub 04-01-2012 18:05 Solent Depot Address problem – insufficient address 04-01-2012 10:18 Solent Depot Address problem – unable to locate premises 04-01-2012 07:17 Solent Depot Loaded to vehicle for delivery 04-01-2012 06:59 Solent Depot Received at delivery depot 04-01-2012 01:28 International Hub Received in destination country 04-01-2012 01:28 International Hub Address problem – incorrect postcode
Amazing, really that the shipping time was so short

I've heard about similar problems – a shipment to Australia that was sent first to Austria, then to Singapore from where it was returned to the UK & Parcelfarce demanded additional postage from the sender or they would destroy the parcel. |

Someone sent a parcel to me, in Bangladesh, which first took a detour to Kenya. Someone in USPS was asleep one day in geography class. >a shipment to Australia that was sent first to Austria, That is quite common. People in Austria often write Austria (Europe)" on their packages. |

Took a month for a parcel to reach me in Cheshunt Hertfordshire from Wimbledon London and it was recorded post. |

A simple letter to Norway went via Malta bizarrely, my colleagues in Bergen scanned the envelope to show me the Maltese postmark! |

DHL sent a file (sent by urgent overnight courier from Manchester to a London based barrister's chambers)to New York – my wife's parcel to China was sent to Istanbul. Parcels to China are often turned back unless you are prepared to provide a 'red bag' to the China Customs official dealing with – nb my wife is Chinese so that is not a slur on all Chinese, just re many in positions of officialdom who take a 'make hay while the sun shines attitude' (or as once said to me elsewhere in a discussion about corruption and cultures in another continent: "he who refuses a bribe steals from his own family") – one commonly found in many countries Customs, police etc (speaking as an ex HMRC person of 25+ years where in all truth other than the odd individual, such is unknown) |
