In addition to playing the mass battle Battlesystem game TMP Link , we enjoy gaming the Battlesystem Skirmishes rules as well. Many years ago at a local convention we ran a series of Drow vs Dwarves Skirmishes scenarios using our home made cavern terrain to represent Dwarven mines and caverns of the Underdark. The results of one year's battle would determine the scenario the following year. The Skirmishes rules worked well for the smalll unit action in the mines and caverns. Wish I had pictures of those games. I am always tempted to update the scenarios and try running them again at the con. A couple years ago, after a long time away, we dusted off the Skirmishes rules because we were looking for a rule set to use for "dungeoncrawl" type games in which a group of characters went up against monsters. I set up a simple scenario in which a group of adventurers (based on some AD&D characters from the past) were investigating the disapperance of local villagers. The Skirmishes rules gave us the type of game we were looking for and now we have been running a linked campaign of sorts using the surviving characters from game to game. Below are links to the scenarios I have put together battle reports for so far, lots of pics. (Previously posted on the Battlesystem Yahoo Groups and LAF, but may be new to some on TMP) More are in the works.

Thanks for the write ups. This is cool. I have been working on a dungeon and I am going to be using AD&D Skirmishes myself. |

Very nice! Maybe Leo isn't ALL dead, but just MOSTLY dead. I think I once had some of those skellies. Are they Grenadier? Doug |

Love the terrain! The Badlands hills are gorgeous. The battle sounds like it was a lot of fun. I like the BS Skirmish rules for playing out larger battles from my RPG sessions, but players are understandably reluctant to commit their much loved PC's to the game. Still, it has its purpose. I played in one of your CotN, Dwarves vs. Drow games. It was a real hoot, but I thought it was using regular BS rules, not the Skirmish. I hope to recreate games similar to them, a bit later this year. I am putting together terrain pieces for playing out the original "Against the Giants" [Hill, Frost, Fire Giants] series of RPG modules, using BS Skirmish rules. I always wanted to play it out with terrain and figures, so now it is only a matter of time, and effort, to put it all together (most of the Giant figures are painted, and ready, but the terrain is a work in progress
). Cheers! |

Doug, the thinner skeletons are Ral Partha but the "thicker boned" skeletons are Grenadier skeletons and zombies. Sgt Slag, the original Drow vs Dwarves scenarios were using the Skirmishes rules but the final scenario we ran did in fact use the regular Battlesystem rules and larger armies. The Against the Giants idea sounds like it would be pretty cool. If it all comes together, it would be great to see pictures. |

m4jumbo, the Drow vs. Dwarves game I played in, was an attack on the Drow House, with Drow X-bowmen lined up across a stone bridge, above, and another line of Drow, beneath it. I had a Dwarven Cleric, who cast a Rock to Mud spell on the stone bridge, with all those Drow X-bowmen on it
The Drow, above, fell, with all of that mud, on top of the Drow line, below. That was a very satisfying moment. I believe that was the larger, final battle, you mentioned. It was great fun! Cheers! |
